Renaming installation folder

Post by uweD » Tue Jul 03, 2007 3:29 am

Hi,

One question.

I installed a new Joomla 1.5 instance. Afterwards I tried to rename the folder in which I installed Joomla before. Everything seemed to work fine but I can not reach the admin pages anymore.... The sever tells me simply: page not found

Is the installation folder hard coded somewhere in the database? Any ideas?

Thanks,
uwe

Once you have installed Joomla all you need to do is remove the /installation/ folder before you can access the administration section of the website, and no it isn't hard coded into the MySQL anywhere.

If you have removed (or renamed) the /installation/ folder and your administration section is still displaying a 'page not found' message just double check that you have the administration folder uploaded.

Also, are you able to post up the exact message your getting? (A screenshot would be ideal but not essential)

In beta-2 the installation check has been disabled. You can leave it, rename it or even remove it. For beta-2 (you better use latest build btw) this really makes no difference. Installation check will be included when we release re RC.

Thanks for all your answers... But I think I asked my question misleading  :-[

What I actually meant was: I installed joomla! in folder 'a'.

Afterwards I wanted to rename folder 'a' to folder 'b'.

The front end is happy with that, the backend is not - it just tells me that the page can not be found.

So: Is it possible to change the name of the folder in which you installed Joomla! in the first place after the installation?

Sorry for the confusion!

If I'm correct, the configuration.php file needs to have some changes re: renaming some paths to the name of the new folder after the name change.  Near the bottom of the file, see the path information.  I believe if you change those to the newly rename installation folder name/location, the program should work.

That's correct;
You'll need to change the absolute path & the live site lines to reflect the new directory.
