Sub menu items not showing in custom template

Hi All,

I need to display sub-menu items in a custom joomla template I made. I successfully managed to add parent menu items. But the sub-menus I added is not getting showed up in template file. I changed the settings for menu options to display sub menu items but no use. Please help me in fixing this issue. Since it's a custom template did I missed out anything?

Maybe its only not visible by CSS. did you check the HTML source code? Can you find the submenus there?
