cant mod template after install. Error: Permission denied.

If I install a template, and I attempt to mod it, I can't upload any new files. I get a permission denied message. If I uninstall Joomla, add the template to the bunch and reinstall joomla there is no problem. Why is this? I can uninstall the template, but still can't add any mods to it. The permissions on these templates are the same as all the others.
anyone have a clue how I can fix this without uninstalling Joomla?? That gets old quickly.
It matters not which template I install. It happens for any and All templates I install.

  I would recommend checking the permissions on the new files you upload and see if they are assigned properly (should be 777 and assigned to joomla) 

If not then you can try a Joomla component called JoomlaXplorer this will allow you to modify the permission levels from Joomla's admin panel and try to assign them to anyone.

Don't follow the above advice! Never set your permissions to 777 unless you want to get hacked!
