Show Hits issue

Post by simonjoomla » Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:10 am

Dear All,

I have installed Joomla 1.5.7 and using the default template. I wish to know how to display the "hits" counts on my article. I have already set the global parameter for "hits" to "show". But no matter how I make the setting, it still does not displayed as I set.

Though I have read some articles discussed about it, but seems no solution I found. Can any one help? Is this a bug? or can anyone recommend an extension which can display the hits for my website. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Loyd. I have just tried it out. But I am afraid this is not I am looking for. I am not looking for a module to display the content hits. Instead, I wish to display each individual article's hits. So that everyone know many times the readers have clicked on each of my article. Isn't that the "hits" parameter in the global parameters (in article manager) should serve? Do throw me some lights. Thanks.

you can show the number of hits each article has been read by
in the article manager click on parameters scroll down you will see hit click show then back to top save.

That's what I have been trying out for long. But it didn't work. I tried to install another new copy of Joomla 1.5.7 in another local host and did the setting as you proposed but it didn't work still. Any more lights on this? In fact, I never have successfully managed to display the hits since a few version back. Very strange ;) By the way, did you manage to do it for your own website just simply following the setting you mentioned above? any more setting you did?

I was taught by a community member and managed to display the hits counter successfully on the front-end. However, this works only when you select your menu item type as Section layout or Category list layout. It does not work neither on article layout nor blog layout. Anyone one know how to make the article layout to show the hits? Thanks

Has anyone come up with another solution to showing hits in each article? We just uninstalled JomComment due to the over-bloated css and file sizes.. now our page loads are nice and fast.. liked the component, but it's just adds too much overhead..

any ideas?

Just want to see the hits by each article, in a section or cat. blog layout.. as well as in the actual article itself.

Thanks

Thanks k4lch,

But we're looking for just the hits piece.. as we just uninstalled JomComment for this reason.. we don't need the voting/comment, etc. pieces.. just to be able to see the hits for each article,.. by th articles title

@Loyd: I know the other features can be disabled, but just as we ran into with JomComment.. it still loads all of the .css and .js files into the index.. increasing load times, etc..

@Slater: What statistics tab are you referring to in Joomla!1.5 ?

Here is my solution to apply to
/www/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php
Between line 41 an 42

Code: Select all

<?php if ($this->params->get('show_hits')) : ?>
	<span>
                   <?php echo $this->article->hits; ?> readings
	</span>
<?php endif; ?>

Hi Guys,

Problem is solved at last!
Use this module called: Display HitsAnyWhere!
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Now you can display page hits or views at any page/article
using little module i wrote myself specially when i wanted to achieve
this for some of my clients....

I researched for whole internet and joomla forums including this
thread to fine the solution but i was not able to find any easy
to implement solution to display hits or page views when you
have selected Category Blog layout in menu in joomla 1.5.x

So i wrote the little code to implement it and decided to share
it with great Joomla community .. here it is
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Just download it , enable it and it will work regardless of the
menu view or options or parameters... i.e. when nothing is working
for you, this will work for you :-)

Good Luck,
Mohsin

Hi Alif,

Thanks for updating me in this regard...yeah my host is behaving strange since few days, it will show internal server error for some sites for sometime every day :-( (time to change the host!)

BTW it is now working fine, you may download this module from here
