Replacing pagination with an image

Postby Bringrice » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:00 pm

My issue is with Joomla's Front Page Blog Layout. I'm currently using Version 1.5.20 of Joomla.

I want to remove all pagination numbering and only have 'Next' and 'Previous'. I also want 'Next' and 'Previous' to be an image, not text.

What is the simplest way to do this?

You could accomplish that with CSS or by creating an output override. http://docs.joomla.org/Understanding_Output_Overrides

Thanks for your help, I'll check out the output override and let you know if it worked.

Fine, I'll do it for you.

Attached is a modified pagination.php which should be placed within your template/html directory. This file was originally part of the beez template and has been modified to only display "Prev" and "Next" links (omitted start, end, and all page numbers)

I've altered the list items to include a class that is equivalent to the text in the link. So, to implement images instead of text you will utilize CSS.

The images I used in the example are the only left and right arrows I know of in the Joomla base files, adjust the background url property to use your images.

Code: Select all

.pagination li.Prev a {
    width: 32px; height: 32px;
    background: url("administrator/images/back_f2.png");
    text-indent: -9999px;
}
.pagination li.Next a {
    width: 32px; height: 32px;
    background: url("administrator/images/next_f2.png");
    text-indent: -9999px;
}

I appreciate trying to solve this, but your solution doesn't work.

When I replace the background properties of the CSS and modify the width/height as well as include your modified pagination.php, it still doesn't work.

Attached is what I'm currently seeing.

I'm sorry, but your comment is a little offensive - considering I know it works. I've been doing this for a while. What you might have chosen to say is - "I don't understand how to make your solution work for me" and I wouldn't have been offended.

You will need to have some level of knowledge of what you're doing.

To accomplish this task, you will need to have at least an intermediate level understanding of CSS, PHP, HTML.

CSS - enough knowledge to remove the list item bullets, hide the text, insert a background image resize the item.
PHP - modify the output to make your CSS job easier
HTML - know the difference between valid and invalid code.

The attachment clearly shows 2 list items and no numbers - Prev and Next is what you asked for. How you style that is entirely up to you. You could easily look at the changes I made to pagination.php and modify it to your liking.

I'll be happy to actually craft a solution that you're happy with. For free, I will answer questions - for me to actually do the work for you requires payment.

Alright, I can pay $40 for you to get this to work. If you're interested, send me an email at TerryTipado@Gmail.com

If anyone else is interested, send me an email.

The link which shows the pagination (not working) is
http://www.bachpanglobal.com/index.php? ... Itemid=133

Only under SOBI2 comp. it is no working. can you suggest something.

Not too much sobi experience, but if sobi doesn't use joomla.core pagination then this method will not work.

Thanks for the info on this, Michael (I think that's your name 'stutteringp0et', my apologies if not). Before I try this I thought I should ask if you are familiar with Yootheme's "Warp" framework. Their template directories are setup a bit differently than most and I wasn't sure if putting the attached file in 'template/html' would still be the advised location.

Thanks!

Not really a yoo fan.

They don't want to use the framework that is in place, so they add another layer on top of it.

I'd rather not give suggestions regarding a yoo theme, because I don't want to be in any way responsible for a yoo product.

I do agree. I originally got away from RocketTheme for that very reason (Gantry). Now it seems that all the theme guys are adding their own layer so you get hooked into their product without an easy switch. I can't see a valid reason for any of them to do it without using the original framework OTHER than to hook you in. Of course, they'll preach all night about how it serves some great purpose.

Thanks anyway.
