Changin under construction page with my real front page?

Post by violeta834 » Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:52 pm

Hello,

I am new to joomla. Really Really new. In fact I am not a designer or programmer or anything related but I am very clever and like to teach myself on this things. So, currently I have domain and I manage to create an "under construction page" inside the Cpanel of my hosting (you can see it here http//:www.kogimobile.com. I followed a [youtube] tutorial video for this :-P. I created the Index.html file and place it under the directory the guy on the video said. Then it worked. Now I downloaded Joomla 1.5 and it works and everything, like I can see it here http://www.kogimobile.com/index.php .

I am now creating a template for my website, and I want to know how do I make that my front page be manage by Joomla? I mean, I want that when I have my template done, I want to replace that "under construction page" with my design.. is that make sense?

thank you in advance..

try : http://docs.joomla.org/Taking_the_websi ... ly_offline

Note that you can display a customized page during the time that your site is offline. To do so, create a file called "offline.php" and place the file in the home directory of your template. For example, if you are using the rhuk_milkyway template, the offline.php file would go in the directory "<Joomla! home>/teamplates/rhuk_milkyway/".
coffee & smoke just fine

I assume you have seen http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Creatin ... !_template tutorial for developing Joomla templates. If you are new to programming then apart from html you will have to learn PHP, CSS, & Javascript to be comfortable in Joomla environment.

Good luck!

Violetta,
when I have my template done, I want to replace that "under construction page" with my design
To build on the answers you have already gotten, let me add a few comments.

When a browser requests a website, the server looks for an "index" file in the root folder. It generally serves them in the following order:

index.html, index.htm, index.php ...

Now, Joomla uses index.php, so if you make an "under construction" page named index.html, people will generally see that rather then your Joomla site.

It is frequently done while your site is "under construction."

Then, when your site is ready to "go live" ... simply delete the "index.html" file (or better yet rename it to index_underconstruction.html or something like that) and then folks will see your Joomla site.

So, just rename that file.

Now, Joomla also has its own "under construction" screen that can be turned on by going to your Global Configuration -> Site is Offline -> Yes.

But both of these approaches will work.

John Thank very much! I liked your answer, very clear for someone who is not a programmer and doesn't intent to take a course of that. :-) I will do what you advised me.

Thanks

Violeta
