Characters not showing well

Post by antonios » Fri Aug 03, 2018 1:05 pm

Hi,
I did an upgrade to J1.5.26 (before upgrading to J3.8.x..the next step) and some of the special characters, like accents, tilde, etc. don't appear well. There must be an issue with the UTF coding I guess but I am not sure how to fix it.
Can anyone help?
Regards

You should recheck font in template and make sure that it still supports.

There are no changes regarding character sets.

So...what can I do then?
You can have a look at my website to see the actual problem. Here and there the special characters are replaced by a "?"

Look like it's problem with Database format, make sure that your database (mySQL or SQLServer) support UTF-8 Unicode CI (utf8mb4_unicode_ci).

If I look at the top of the database (mysql) through phpmyadmin, I can see that the database general settings are with utf8mb4_unicode_ci.

However, many tables have either "latin1_swedish_ci" or utf8_general_ci on their collation property

Is this normal?

On the other hand, before upgrading to 1.5.26 I unistalled a number of extensions but their tables are still in the database, is this normal?
