absolute beginner has problems, please help
Hello
Just thrown my hat in to a forum and agreed to be the webmaster, my first time in that role! The Joomla software has had a glitch and no one has been able to sort it out.
Basically we have 1.5.26 and we have error logs (PHP error logs) that get bigger and bigger. (In Disk Usage / Logs)
In laymans terms (!) how can I disable the logs and make our life a bit easier?
Many Many thanks
Terry

Install the latest Joomla and rebuild the site is your best option.

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
Thats not really an option as the old site is full of information. Just want to stop it logging. Have now tried various php.ini fixes but none seem to work
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
They won't work. Host's will keep upgrading their php version and 1.5 wont run on newer versions pf php. Your only option is to install the latest version of Joomla and rebuild the site. J2xml will help move the data/users you will just need to create the menus and install new extensions. There are other migration tools but trying to keep it 1.5 is not a viable option.

Thanks for the reply and ultimately that’s what we want to do, but for the moment we just want to stop the error logs. Surely there is a way. There must be a way.
Thanks

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
Fix the cause of the php errors and then they wont show in the error log ?
What are the errors ?
btw
There was a zero day exploit found after 1.5.26 became eol. A hotfix was produced ... see https://www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/hotfixes/ for details

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
Just noticed a few things the php file in Public html is named "php.ini2" ? There was a server migration, is this the problem? should it be renamed php.ini?
Within that file Display Errors is set to ON
Thanks

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
Global config >>> Server (tab) ... set 'error reporting' 'Simple' or 'None' ... does that help ?

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
You can try but if the global setting is ignored then the local php.ini might also ignore it. Try
https://www.a2hosting.co.uk/kb/develope ... ccess-fileUse a text editor to modify the .htaccess file as follows:
To prevent PHP from displaying error messages, add the following line:
php_flag display_errors Off
To allow PHP to display error messages, add the following line:
php_flag display_errors On
Save the changes to the .htaccess file and exit the text editor.
To verify that the new setting is active, create a PHP test file that contains the following code in the same directory where the .htaccess file is located:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
Load the test file in your web browser, and then search for the name of the directive. The Local Value column should display the new setting that you specified in the .htaccess file.

Site went down when you edited the.htaccess? Did it work when you undid the edit?

Re: absolute beginner has problems, please help
What happens when that version of php becomes obsolete? Perhaps find a fix not a work around?
