Nope, not really, it basically comes down to the way it runs and looks and how you feel about each, I tend to hedge toward WAMPServer as I like it's format and layout and configuration style, but many others like the way XAMMP is designed and presented.
Joomla! on the fabulous Sunshine Coast...

Not a lot of energy on this one. Is it really that much of a tossup?
What about level of support and size of user community? Are there more 3rd party sorts of add-ins or other such productivity or usability things which tilt toward one or the other?
What about resources, stability, and performance? Are they both about the same?
I'm getting ready to get Joomla installed locally and would like to make some sort of informed decision.
thx

Re: WAMP Server vs. XAMPP Server
Did enough research and deciding to go with XAMPP.
Reason 1 -As of today there were more problem posts with WAMP - WINDOWS7 x64 installs. Very few issues posted using XAMPP on Win7x64.
Reason 2 - ability to run XAMP on Linux. It may come in handy to build up a test site on windows then migrate that complete environment to a host server where it can be more accessible to all on the net, so clients can review in progress staged development snapshots easily. Certainly not for any real load, just light review and beta testing. Then transfer from that environment to production servers might go easier.
UPDATE The XAMPP install went very smooth and the joomla install into that system went fine as well. There was a guide I followed that explained the steps to get the joomla database created and really zero hassle.

There is not really such big difference between them. There are some cons and pros for both.As i will say windows compatibility and beginners help are advantages about Wamp. Only a design part is of major difference . I came to know about it after looking this page http://techwikasta.com/2012/11/wamp-the ... -to-xampp/ . You can also refer it for better information.
