Hi, I am trying to intergrate my Group Jive communities with the coressponding Fire board forums. I installed the Bot and it says to copy and paste You can copy & paste the {mos_fb_discuss:##} for the category you want to use!
Here are some examples. Where do I copy and paste so the 2 communities are tied together. I tried pasting on Group Jive pages but it messed them up. Thanks for your help.

I know this is VERY late, but . . .

what you have to do is create ONE category in the fireboard forum.

Then you go to the actual forum as if you were going to post in it

then you look at the url to find the id# of the top-level forum

then you put that id# into groupjive

then you go back into fireboard and unpublish the top-level form (don't worry, the groups will have access through the groups page)

Then, whenever you create a group, the forum category will automatically be created.

Hi, I have a few questions about that process of creating the category and forum. When you create those, do you want them both published until you add the cat# to your configuration? Are you supposed to use the number for the category or the forum under it? Last question, do you unpublish both the category and forum once you've done that?

So, this is what happens:

When you create the Groupjive category in the fireboard forum, you want to have it published only so that you can get the catid# to put in groupjive configuration. After you put in groupjive the catid# in the config, you want to unpublish the category from fireboard.

After that, whenever you or someone else creates a group and you/they click on the link to go to the forum from within their particular group groupjive will automatically create a forum (if one is not already created) that is accessible only through groupjive.

By default, the category (groupjive) stays unpublished, but the forum (individual group) becomes published. Now, the forum will not be detectable through fireboard, only through groupjive UNLESS you publish the category groupjive. i do not recommend publishing the groupjive category because you will have a forum for every group, and that makes for a long list in the regular fireboard forum. It would be easier for people to go into the individual group pages and access that particular group's forum from there.

Thanks for your reply. I realized that my mistake was I was creating a test group and not setting approval to join. Doesn't it create forums for groups that are not private?

It creates forums for all groups. Whether they are private, approval to join, or open to all has no bearing on whether they show up in the groupjive category in fireboard.

By default, when you unpublish the category (which i called groupjive), even though the individual forums say that they're published in the fireboard backend, they are only accessible through the groups page. To have them available, you have to keep the category published, and manually hide the forums associated with private groups.

Would you be willing to take a look at the back end on my site? I can PM login info. The way this is working right now, it will create the group forum only if you've set the group to approval to join. When you create a group that is public, you don't see its forum on the front end. When you go to the back end, the public groups forums are created as root level categories.

i tooled around a bit but couldn't find anything. Okay, i did find something. Apparently, when, in groupjive, you put in the catid# it doesn't take, so anytime you create a new group, it doesn't go into the backend.

I found this out when i changed the default catid# in groupjive from 40 to 50. When i saved the change, and then went back and hit the >click here to update old groups< button it read that no groups had to be updated. So what i expect is somehow the link between what you fill in that box and it being entered into the actual file is broken somehow.

My recommendation would be to ftp into the backend and find out what file gets updated when you put in the catid#. You could download the whole unpacked file onto your desktop and do a search that includes searchign the text for the strings "cat" or "catid" or "catid#".

Then, go into the file and change it manually. It would really help us all out if you posted the results. I'd especially like to know because i didn't think that groupjive worked in j1.5 and that was/is the ONLY reason i kept developing a 1.1 site!!!

Here's a quick question. I don't know PHP or SQL, so I'm not sure of the syntax. I found a line in groupjive.class.php that says:

If I wanted to hard code a number there, do I need that semicolon after it, like:

Should the number be in single quotes or anything?

I replied to you over at the over forum, but here is my post, because I include the fix.
Thanks for the repost here, bewhy. It looks like what I asked about with the "$cat_id=$this->_db->loadResult();" line fixed the problem. I changed it to:

I have successfully created two groups so far with "open to all" and their forums work. Previously, the only way I could create a forum in a group was if that group were set to "Approval to join", and I think that may not have always been working.

So, here's the fix:

1. Find administrator/components/com_groupjive/groupjive.class.php
2. Find the higher level category number where you want your group forums as per the GroupJive instructions.
3. Go to the line in that file that says $cat_id=$this->_db->loadResult();
4. Replace everything after the = with your category number (but keep the semicolon)

Edit to say that anyone is welcome to visit my community here and check out the groups. Let me know if you find any problems. :silly: I know that the VirtueMart shop isn't working right now, by the way.
EDIT: The groups are still blowing up.

I have this same problem, new group forum categories are created (not forums) and not under the category I am telling them to, even after making the change to the groupjive.class file. Why isn't everyone having this dilemma? They will not work properly until I manually put them in the correct category and publish them. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

In GroupJive is the function to remove the copyright, which is not objected by V team. However if the selection is set to no, the copyright is still showing.
Someone tried to removed it... where is it placed? tmpl files, php, language, bu language i could not find anything.
looking forward
