Migrating Site from e107 to Joomla

Post by djcammy » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:01 am

Hello

I've searched for the answer to this question and haven't been able to find it, so hope you guys can help!

I run a moderate sized site that’s currently using e107. I’d like to transfer the whole site over to joomla.

I realise from reading this forum (and others) that I won’t be able to move all the information over if I’ve used 3rd party plugins etc. But I need to get across the news items, the registered members and, if possible, the forum over to the joomla site.

My site has just over 300 members, over a 1000 news articles and 500 forum posts.

I found one php script that should take the news across, but could never quite get it to work. It was also written 3 years ago and aimed at mambo, so not sure how well it would work for joomla 1.5?

Any advice on how to achieve the transfer (either doing it mmyself or with someone else’s help!) would be very welcome!

Thanks for your help.

David

From what have read, this is indeed very possible, but I'm completely unsure how it is done, since I've never done it before. I will be doing some research on this, though, and will try to find someone who knows the answer to this that will come here to help. :)

Until then, do some google searching and have patience! There may also need to be a new script written to transfer to 1.5.1 or later. Oh, and what forums are you using? Is it directly integrated into e107, or is it standalone?

Great topic and excatly what I was gonna post about.

Im currently on e107 aswell and looking to change.

Ideally the information that I would like to keep is:

Forums (integrated)
Members and their details
Downloads (members own submitted game maps)
Comments (on downloads)

Everything else I could lose and start again with no problem.
Id be eternally grateful if someone could come up with a solution (preferably easy :D )

Thanks for the reply. Trust me, I've been researching and I've been patient!

The forum is the integrated e107 forum.

The php script that I found has a lot of parameters in it that need to be filled in, but not all of them are applicable to the host my database is listed with, so not sure how to edit it. But as you say it may need to be a completely different script given the changes in joomla.

Hmmm...there may be a problem switching the forums over, since Joomla! doesn't actually have one single core forum that is integrated. There are several that you can integrate, however.

I apologize that you haven't found an answer yet. There still may be one somewhere on the forums. did you try forum.joomla.org/search.php ?

I may actually be considering a switch myself, the site is very new which should make things easier. Although I have a question to ask before I go on; should integrating a Perl uploading script such as Uber-Uploader be fairly easy with Joomla!?

We bought this application and it didn't work. We have made our own one.
We have ported all the e107 forum contents over to Kunea

You should be able to migrate e107 to mambo then over to Joomla. I haven't done it before but it should work. Send me a PM if you need help.

Erm... dont get it. Are you saying:

1. you want to migrate your database, but you dont know how, so you are basically in the same shoes as us, or

2. you successfully migrated your database from e107 joomla, and have a solution. if this, please tell us how did you do that.

such an old thread...but, perhaps someone is still looking for the answer..so, i found the way of migrating site content from e107 to Joomla - this joomla extension http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ools/23642 supports such kind of conversion, not sure about the items that may be converted, at any rate this extension allows to try free demo preview.
hope it helps anybody...
