Post by bluesardine » Sat Jun 27, 2009 3:56 pm

Hi Guys, I norm upgrade joomla through control panel and fantiscico but sometimes it breaks lol and i have to upload the backup.

Sorry i am a designer and not a programmer so goes straight over my happy colours and pictures head! lol

I want to upload this way using these instructions but a little stuck: PLEASE SEE BOLD BELOW

Using your browser, log in to the CPanel for your site.
Click on "File Manager"
To upload the archive file to your web server:-
Navigate to the directory where you want to place the archive file. WHERE IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR A JOOMLA PATCH UPGRADE to go into:
Home directory
Web root (public_html/www PRESUME HERE, but where to put the patch??
public ftp root
document root

Click on "Upload Files".
In the popup window navigate to the archive file. For example, a typical archive file would have a file extension of .zip, .tar.gz or .tar.bz2.
Click on the "Okay" or "Save" button to upload the file.
To extract the contents of the archive file:-
Click on the uploaded file.
Click on the "Extract File Contents" option on the right. The files will then be extracted.

Thanks guys, really need to know how to do this, thanks for looking

Upload the zip file to the root of your Joomla site, this is the folder where your configuration.php file is unless you have moved it. You then extract the zip file in that folder and then after extracting delete the zip file.

i take it you go into root where the list is libraries,logs,media,modules,plugs,templates etc as down below is the config.php so i installed to there then extracted and then deleted zip.

check admin and its upgraded to 1.5.11 YEAH

OK i have one site that i buggered up so have to go through vault to backup to original state but it is in 1.5.8 do i have to install each patch in turn or is there a quick way to get to latest 1.5.11 ??

Thank you very much i know now, and can keep all my sites upgraded.

There is a 1.5.8 to 1.5.11 patch listed on this page under the Files tab;

Post by bluesardine » Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:40 am

Hi I have been uploading the latest 1.5.12 patches i see there are 3 diff ones, any way tried them all.

they load up no prob but when you go into each page to change info some of the elements are missing
ie left just, bold etc some of the boxes are missing, for instance when you selct an image to change alt tag you do not have the option to do so!

Have i done something wrong or are the patches not stable????? :'(

I have tried uploading patch 1.5.10 - 1.5.11 is this the right patch to upload to take back in time?

When i log into admin side yes it reverts back to 1.5.11 but the wysiwyg panel is still wrong!!! :eek:

Any ideas

Sorry another post by me...

The wysiwyg Tiny editor shows all the items now! but....

When i go into an existing page and try and add alt tags it will let me, but when i click apply then save or just apply the image moves from right justified to left justified!!

Happens every time....Is it this editor??

I would try uploading the complete file set for Joomla 1.5.12 except the installation folder. With applying different patches you may no longer have a complete file set for Joomla on your site.

Any knowledge on how I am suppose to upload patches? Or upgrade from version 1.5.3 to 2.5? I have created a test site. I have created the test database. I have uploaded the copy of my original database into the test database now what? Do I just upload all the zip files to the ftp site and start unpacking them and allowing them to overwrite old data then test the site after each one until I get to 2.5 or is there an easier way to do this? Be very specific as this is basically like speaking French to someone who has never spoken french before. I know code, I know graphics design and I know MySQL what I don't know is what files do what and what files I will need to adjust each time I upload the patches and upgrades? Will I have to rewrite the config file over and over or will I have to re-write the index file over and over to ensure my page stays the same or will these changes only be effecting the back end?

Hi, this should have been a new post on the forum rather then picking up a thread that is almost 4 years old.

Your first step should be to get your site updated to the latest Joomla 1.5 version, 1.5.26. You should download the patch file;
Joomla_1.5.0_to_1.5.26-Stable-Patch_Package.zip

Now set up a test site(a working copy of your live site) locally or on your Host server, unzip the patch file and upload all of the files/folders to the root of your test site. Now you check to make sure your extensions and template work with the latest version. If the test site works you should backup your live site, files and database, and then upload the patch files to your live site as you did the test site. Debug and fix anything you needed to fix on the test site after updating.

Now you should be up to the latest version of 1.5. At this point check that your Host server meets the requirements for Joomla 2.5 and that there are 2.5 versions of any extensions you are using or alternate extensions you can use in their place. You will also need a 2.5 compatible template as your 1.5 one will not work without template modifications.

Then follow the upgrade instructions found here to upgrade your site from 1.5 to 2.5.
