Upgrading Joomla 1.0.12+Virtuemart 1.0.10

Post by coloradoz » Tue Jul 03, 2012 6:05 pm

I'm having some issues upgrading an old site - I'm hoping that someone out there can help me out.

1. In reading the instructions for the upgrade - the method involves first upgrading Virutemart to 1.1x. I've downloaded the zip files for the package from http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files
2. I tried the 1.15 version, unzipped it in my local directory and tried to use the 1.0.12 component installer, but I get the following error
Upload component - Upload Failed
Unrecoverable error "PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10)"
3. I've looked up the error message and there doesn't really seem to be any suggestions out there to help. I'm suspecting that the 1.1 extension is incompatible with Joomla 1.0.12, but I can't really tell.

Can someone please point me in the right direction on this?

First backup your 1.0.12 site files and database. Then upgrade your 1.0.12 Joomla site to 1.0.15, the latest version of 1.0.
Joomla_1.0.12_to_1.0.15-Stable-Patch_Package.zip

Then read this tutorial on migrating a 1.0 Virtuemart site to
Joomla 1.5
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=430&t=419087

Use the manual installer to update your Virtuemart version;
http://dev.virtuemart.net/attachments/d ... .15.tar.gz
Follow the ReadMe instructions that come with it to upload the folders to the correct location on your site.

Once you have a Joomla 1.0.15/Viruemart 1.0.15 site you should be able to migrate to Joomla 1.5.

If the Virtuemart 1.0.15 update fails restore your site backup that you made before doing any changes.
I would also suggest doing the updates on a local install of your site as a test using a local server like Wampserver2 or Xamp before trying to update your live site.
