What are your views and experiences on using akeeba backup for a web site that has been running very well without much problems.
Thank you for your attention.

If you are really operating a 1.5 website, keep in mind that support ended on December 31, 2012. So your website has not been kept up-to-date for the past 3+ years and iks a prime candidate for hackers. Personally I would upgrade to the latest version of Joomla 3.4. However if you would like to risk it then a backup is a MUST!

Than you might considering paying a little money and purchasing the SPUpgrade extension which allows you to migrate straight from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3.4.x and it goes flashy fast. If you have little experience with Joomla it is an almost impossible mission without that extension.

You need to backup your site first (and download the backup to be secure) and Akeebabackup is an excellent tool for this. Highly recommended

@leolam Yes, Akeeba Backup is an outstanding tool, but what if it has not been installed on the source 1.5 site? First, only Akeeba Backup v. 3.4.3 can be used on 1.5 sites and this version of Akeeba Backup is not supported after August 2012. The unsupported version 3.4.3 still is available but the attempt to install it on the source site might result in crashing it. The owner of the site will blame developer hired for migration saying that at least his old 1.5 was still somehow working before an attempt to make a backup. It looks like no reliable migration can be started before making a backup and no backup is possible before making migration. Catch 22. Any ideas on how to deal with it?
