I also have the same problem.

I installed centos with gallery2 and when I installs Joomla 1.5 it asked me to delete the installation folder.
En then i get the same message when i try to go to home or admin.

Is there anybody who have the solution to this?

I had the same problem, but creating a clean and writable configuration.php in my root and reinstalling (drop all tables in your db the first installation creatdd) without FTP layer fixed this for me.

I had the same behaviour: Configure everything, then remove the installation directory, and then the error (I never had a working site... :'( or  >:()

So I looked at configuration.php, and noticed that all of the db settings have been empty. I just added them as specified either in configuration.php-dist or in the installation, et voilà, Joomla rocks.

I'm seeing this error but only when I try to log out of admin, not in. Both on the local xampp installation and the server. The server is an image of the local, so it may be something I did before I uploaded this morning. Our test site:
http://lakeweb.net/jmla/

As I don't have local mail I was only able to test fireboard up there. Works all the way though email confirmation. But then I get this error when trying to log onto the new forum account.

Everything works, add articles, whatever. So I don't think it could be a configuration.php problem.

Thanks, Dan.

Uno, I let this alone for hours figuring something would make sense. Well Duh! Now that I've posted. Yesterday I tried to install jfushion, I could not get it to work. But on the way I switch plugins to Authentication and User jfusion, (advertised not to be a problem). When I switched them back to joomla, the problem went away.

Best, Dan.

Hi guys,
I had that problem as well, soon after changing and sawing "Global Configuration"

Taking inspiration from your posts I went through configuration.php and compared with a new one (automatically created by the installation process offered by my host-provider)

I found out that updating the config file Joomla added some vars, one of which causing that error.

Code: Select all

var $dbtype = '';
In fact this variable is used in file database.php to create the path (At least I suppose)

Code: Select all

#
 if (file_exists($path)) {
                require_once($path);
            } else {
                JError::setErrorHandling(E_ERROR, 'die'); //force error type to die
                $error = JError::raiseError( 500, JTEXT::_('Unable to load Database Driver:') .$driver);
                return $error;
}
Anyway, comment, delete or correct

Code: Select all

var $dbtype = '';
to solve the problem

Cheers
Joff

Hi guys,

I have just encountered teh same error after having installed WAMPserver, and the Joomla = VirtueMart eCommeerce packge 1.5!

After looking at the configuration.php I discovered that for some reasone the Database settings were left completely blank, so I filled them in:

/* Database Settings */
var $dbtype = 'mysql';
var $host = 'localhost';
var $user = 'root';
var $password = '';
var $db = '6562_PSS';
var $dbprefix = 'jos_';

and it works now!

Hope that helps one or the other of you...

Thanks to nik_c , what you suggested worked perfect to me with this error.
And for others that will read this, please remember to change your var $db = 'db_user'; by your database name.
Thanks to everybody to take the time to share.

I am not sure if this topic is still active or if anybody will pick up on this reply but I could really use some help.

I have recently created my first Joomla 1.5 site and am really happy with the way it is turning out. I have been developing it remotely using a dev... url so i doesn't interfere with the existing live site.

For various reasons I wanted to go live with the new site on a new hosting company/new server and have backed up and restored the mysql database to the new host and ftp'd all the files to the new server. For some reason I cannot view the website at all. All I get is
'JError Unable to load Database Driver:mysql'

I have been through my configuration.php file and am happy that the dbtype and dbhost variables are correct. I really cannot workout why I am getting this error. This is the string for the dbtype variable in case anybody can tell me I am being stupid!

var $dbtype = ‘mysql’;

The site is currently on a preview URL but this should not cause any problems should it?

I was also facing the same problem but thanks to this thread, I realized that my configuration.php setting for database is empty. I'm using ubuntu with lamp setting. So, my first expectation is the folder/file permission.

I have an habit of rename installation folder instead of delete it. So I rename again to installation, and change permission setting for all file in www/ folder. After I delete configuration.php file, I try to install again, and woohla.. everything work fine. :D

Please find the guru solution for this issue.

1. Delete your complete joomla folder. (make sure u have the backup).
2. Drop the database you have created for joomla.
3. Create the database.
3. Start the installation process.
4. Follow the installation instructions and installed Joomla.
5. Delete the installation folder.
6. Click on "site" url

Hey.

I had the same problem when installing a staging Joomla on a Linux machine. I have solved it by running a chmod 777 on the whole joomla folder, deleting the configuration.php and running the installation again. No more problems second time around.

If you get the same problem on a live server, you might need to use the hosting cpanel to change permission rights on the Joomla folder. Still, don't know if you need to change the whole Joomla folder or just some, but changing only for configuration.php did not work for me...

Hope this info helps.

Dear nik_c
I am only a week into joomla! I installled it after following a lnyda.com tutorial, worked fine but then it had some warnings like root password not set - this might expose you to hackers. It was still going grate though. I panic and decided to change the passwords. That was it - my whole site dissappeared!

I reinstalled joomla! but without success. I then checked out forum.joomla - its amazing - there are some really talented people out there!

I followed you post:

AND IT WORKED! CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!

Just had this problem, had a poke around in the configuration.php and found out that as per the above posts, the db settings were blank.

This is down to me being to lazy, and not reading the Joomla install screens properly i.e. that configuration.php was not writeable. Normally I just unzip the latest version of Joomla to the html root directory, and then chmod 777 everything (makes it nice and easy for test purposes), but forgot about configuration.php

Anyway, you can delete everything and start again, or just go in and change the db settings in configuration.php and everything will be fine.

ok,

Ignore my last post, it installed, but I missed the error messages (too used to the Joomla installer)...click...click...yeah already...

Anyway - Wondering what I had changed on my system to stop the standard Joomla installer working, then it hit me. I normally use the full IP address when accessing the Joomla test server on my laptop (I use VM's to host my linux server setup), but I popped some entries into my Windows hosts file to save a bit of typing.

It seems that as I didnt put a FQDN in the hosts file, Joomla isn't playing nice.

Tried the install with the standard IP address and it worked fine.

Havent tried it with a FQDN yet, but strongly suspect it will work (i.e. testserver.domain.local rathern that just testserver).

Hope this helps some people.

Cheers,

Dean

I just had this problem after creating a local XAMP-based version of my online database.

The suggestion made by Nik above worked for me. My settings were empty in configuration.php as Nik had experienced.

/* Database Settings */
var $dbtype = 'mysql';
var $host = 'localhost';
var $user = 'root';
var $password = '';
var $db = '6562_PSS';
var $dbprefix = 'jos_';

Thanks Nik and others.

thanks for the help.

this error was due to a blank configuration.php file.

just fill out all the database settings , including the "password" and it will work.

if you get a BLANK screen check that you have the PASSWORD in

I saw this same error on one of the sites I admin.. I tried everything listed here and was ready to reinstall from backups. in that process an IT buddy of mine noticed that a file was missing from our installation as compared to the new one.

mysql.php

was missing from

\libraries\joomla\database\database

copied it from the new install to the original and now all is well
hoping this might save someone else the headache of this in the future

Hi nik_c,

Thank you so much for your tip; it worked, I replaced the remote db info instead of the local server info though: just said this for those who are still wondering why nik_c instruction might not work.

Thank you all who are sharing your thoughts,

Hi guys! I have manually replaced the configuration.php file making sure by means of copy/paste that all parameters for logging into my db are correct. Yet, I still get the dreaded error.

In case it helps anyone help me, I had a fully functional (blank, non-customised yet) template. I decided to upload the "quickstart" package with everything pre-configured. I uploaded all the quickstart package files via FTP and replaced the configuration.php file with the previously fully working one, to get this error.

What can I do? I've spent most of my weekend trying to find a solution to this and I've almost given up.

Kind thanks
Garo
