Uploading Videos - Media Manager Joomla 1.5.6

Post by calvaryh » Thu Aug 14, 2008 4:22 pm

I have tried searching for steps to modifying the media manager to allow for uploading of flv, mp4, mpg, and mov files to my website. None of the global changes I have made seem to help. Can someone please walk me through it? Sorry for being a noob, but I am here to make y'all look good is all :D
So, what permissions need to be on my configuration.php?
I only have access to my .htaccess file, no php.ini for server, but my php shows 20m upload allowed which is more than enough right now.
What do i need to put in the global configuration?

Please help me.

I'd like to know the answer to this too please...

Originally upon uploading video files it moaned about them not being acceptable file types, so...

In the Global Config > system > Media Settings
I have added flv, m4a and m4v in the correct alphabetical order in the list of legal extensions.

When I then uploaded my m4a video file, it asked me to check my file size.
My file is only 5MB (the default limit is 10). I went back to global config and set the maximum size to 0 (therefore unlimited) and tried to upload again. It still moaned about the file size. :(

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks.

Maff.

For uploading videos, you need to add all those extensions in Alpha Order only via Global Configuration>>Media manager Settings..

And if you are getting Upload Size Error, then check your php.ini in the root or your php configuration of your server or with the host...
Its generally 2-5 MB.
If you want to increase, then increase it...
Thanks...
Hope,it helped.

Although it seems silly to me, I've just alphabetized my 'Legal Extensions'. However, still no luck uploading even a simple jpg file.
With the jpeg, it tells me that the media type is unsupported (as mentioned, it's a jpeg), and with an audio file it tells me to check the filesize. I've increased the filesize in the config to a zillion bytes (well, exaggerating a bit, it's only 100 000 000) and the size of the audio file is a mere 3.5 million. I've also deactivated 'check mime types'.

What am I not getting here? :( Please help!
Cheers, M.

Woopsie... silly ole me forgot to restart apache... everything is working now!!!

My alpha ain't so good, but here is my list

bmp,csv,doc,epg,flv,gif,ico,jpg,mov,mp4,mpg,odg,odp,ods,odt,pdf,png,ppt,swf,txt,xcf,xls,BMP,CSV,DOC,EPG,FLV,GIF,ICO,JPG,MOV,MP4,MPG,ODG,ODP,ODS,ODT,PDF,PNG,PPT,SWF,TXT,XCF,XLS

seems alpha correct to me. doing that didn't help, until i specified that flv,mov,mp4,mpg be ignored. now i can upload the video files.

what i did was set the following, and it works.

Belay that last comment - it stopped working. I was uploading an older flv that was made about 6months ago, and it just won't go up. Is the right size, and everything. So doesn't work consistently. Which in my book means it don't work. It seems that in a media driven web, we should be able to use the best CMS to upload media. Can anyone direct me to a page or site that has something for idiots like myself to accomplish this?

I believe in php.ini, it's:
- Increased my PHP value upload_max_filesize to 500M.
- Increased my PHP value post_max_size to 500M.

Then restart your web server...

Confirmed: putting (.flv) extensions in "Ignore" list will allow you to upload videos.

I have done that and cannot get more than 65 megs up?
Should I set the file size to a gig ( which is my target)

It says if you set it to zero "0" that the file size will be unlimited. (whic ive done)

I have already made the changes the php.ini file.
I am not sure if the server has been rebooted.... could that be part of my issue? >:(

Thank you very much calvaryh (and kbharath for listing both) That really helped!

I also added a few other often used formats to the lists like avi, mp3 and wmv.
Here they are if anyone wants to add those:

avi,bmp,csv,doc,dvx,epg,flv,gif,ico,jpg,mov,mp3,mp4,mpg,odg,odp,ods,odt,pdf,png,ppt,swf,txt,xcf,xls,BMP,CSV,DOC,EPG,FLV,GIF,ICO,JPG,MOV,MP4,MPG,ODG,ODP,ODS,ODT,PDF,PNG,PPT,SWF,TXT,wav,wmv,XCF,XLS

avi,dvx,flv,mov,mp3,mp4,mpg,wav,wmv
As we grow older, may we grow more childish with each passing day  - unknown
