odd files keep generating in cache folders

Hi,

I utilize hostmonster for web hosting and had an old Joomla 1.5 site running that I have since deleted (by deleting all the folders for the site via FTP). Despite doing that, some folders remain.

The path that remains is (/public_html/reviewagym_joomla15/cache/com_content) and is populated with nearly 8,000 of these files:

c87d372ee8340cb1acdb26cc6726aae7.php
c879e90bb1fe642e3b562e22fdbc9d47.php_expire

I have tried deleting them, but they keep generating, almost instantly - it is very peculiar given the rest of the system files are deleted.

I googled this error and some mentioned it has to do with a news feed, others a virus (I scanned the live site that is up and running - no malware). I even tried renaming the folders so it couldn't write in that directory, removing write permissions and nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

These seem like regular Joomla cache files. Can you attack (in a zipped format) one of those files to see if they're OK or not? Most likely they are OK - but it is odd that they are being generated despite the fact that you have deleted the website.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The only other thing I thought of is that maybe it has to do with another site on the server as I have move the site to a newer version of Joomla? Although it is in a completely different directory.

I have attached files here.

Thanks for your help!

These files are OK - no need to worry.

Thanks for checking this for me. I appreciate it.

Wouldn't the fact they keep reappearing impact server performance? I assume they keep trying to write files to that directory but the server rejects it so because of the file count limit in a directory?

Do you have any thoughts on what is causing this?
