joomla 1.5 is it vulnerable after Joomla end support in Oct
Hi All,
i'm a Joomla Virgin but have installed 1.5 on several new sites. I keep on reading unauthorised and unofficial doom monger warnings about 1.5 not being supported after October 2012 which the articles have gone on to say will mean 1.5 will be Vulnerable to hacking and security breaches. I love 1.5 and do not want to move/migrate. Please can someone alleviate my concerns.
Thanks

Hopefully the Joomla team will warn us, if a security hole in Joomla 1.5 is detected after September. They post security notices for 2.5 and then they can tell if 1.5 is also affected.

I don't think they will provide support after October 2012.... So in my opinion, the best thing to do is update to the latest version

It is easier to update your sites if they are quite new with J!Update. It is always wise to stay up to date with currently supported joomla.

An interesting detail. Since 1.5.26 Joomla 2.5 have had two security updates, so 1.5.26 seems safer at present.

Long term support for 1.5 ended in April 2012. Major security fixes will be done until the release of 3.0 in September 2012 after which time no further security releases will be done for 1.5
All 1.6 and 1.7 releases have reached end of life and should be updated to 2.5. There are no security releases for these versions and they are currently insecure.
End of Support for the 2.5 series is September 2012 with an end to long term support for the 2.5 series December, 2013
Upcoming Major Release is Joomla! 3.0 with an expected general availability date of September 2012
http://developer.joomla.org/development-status.html
Anyone not currently using the 2.5 version should consider planning a move now to 2.5 and also plan to move to the 3.0 version in the near future. Moving now to 2.5 and later to 3.0 should reduce the time and effort to move to the new 3.0 version. There are many advantages to moving to 2.5 series now and on to the 3.0 version later. If you love 1.5 you will really love the added functionality of the 2.5 version as well as the upcoming 3.0 version. to assist in migration from 1.5 go here:
Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5
Do not depend on anyone telling you about any security holes found after Sept. 2012 for the 1.5 series even if they are known. It is unlikely to happen and security patches will not be released. If you insist on remaining on 1.5, then you will mainly be on your own to solve any security issues that may open in the site. It would also be very wise to make sure you have clean virgin copies of all site files stored offline safely so that you can quickly replace all the files when your site gets hacked. After September some of these packages and files will be hard to find and download. 3rd party developers generally stop development (and security patches) and their extensions will become hard to find if available at all.
