Upgrading 1.5.15 to ...

Post by ov10fac » Tue Oct 25, 2016 1:46 am

My 1.5.15 site is being attacked. Some how new users are getting added without my knowlege. They are not enabled, so not too serious right now, but it can be very fast. So two questions.

1. Is there any way to stop new user creation?

2. Is that a good clear upgrade document. I have read several upgrading from 1.5 to 3.xx but they are complicated and not very clear.

Any help appreciated.

1. Disable user registration on the website
2. There are tools that allow you to migrate your website. See: https://extensions.joomla.org/category/ ... -migration

Many thanks. Just the information I needed to stop the unauthorized registrations.

If I was running several sites I would definately purchase your product. But I only have one site to maintain so I think its overkill to purchase a migration tool. I would think it could be done "manually" without the aid of tools. After all if all we are doing is replicating a database, that is pretty easy to do, then just copy the appropriate files to the server. But what if you are just upgrading on the same server? Can I upload Joomla 3 to the old server while 1.5 is running, or do I need move things to a second machine then install 3? Those are the kinds of details I need.

Thanks again, you solved the major problem for the time being.

Do not under-estimate the migration of Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3.x. The whole database structure is different and many functions have changed or are no longer supported. Additionally, XML manifest files have changed substantially.

Many thanks.

I had no idea the migration was so complicated. Many thanks, I may have to re-think my process and what I need to do.
