Hi,
I'm new to the forum & Joomla! I installed Joomla! 1.5 last week on a website. If anybody can help me how can I have a short URL for new posted articles on the website ... (I don't know much about MySQL database, so please, bear in your mind my knowledge when you try help me)

When I read the new posted articles the address will be something like this;
http://websitename.com/main/index.php?o ... &Itemid=50, which is very long.

How can I fix it to be short? Something like the following http://websitename.com/main/content/view/658/21/215/
Thanx!

Hi,

Try enabling the SEF url's in the global configuration. That will help you get clearer url's.

There are some known issues in RC4 with SEF url's, but thats being worked on for another release, soon to come.

Thanks RobInk,

I applied your recommendation & the result of the URLs is like this;
http://wesitename.com/main/index.php/th ... tter%20one
which is better than before.

The title (Letter One) is still in the URL. Is there any way that the title will not be included on the URL?

Thanx!

Hi,

I do not think thats possible, not without a 3rd party extension for SEF url's.

Hi RobInk,

Can I use a 3rd party extension for SEF url's on Joomla! 1.5? Where can I find the extension?

Thanx!

I'm not sure if there are any already, you would have to check the extension site for that.

AFAIK, the Joomla SEF uses the 'Alias' field, not title.
Therefore you can change the alias to show whatever you prefer within the URL

Hope that helps,

Thank you very much Vince & RobInk,
My problem with short URL is solved with your help.
The long URL example; http://websitename.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=50,
RobInk wrote: Try enabling the SEF url's in the global configuration. That will help you get clearer url's.
By enabling the SEF (Search Engine Friendly URLs) the URL became shorter than before,
Example; http://wesitename.com/index.php/the-new ... ne%for%you

Then with the help of Vince
Vince wrote: AFAIK, the Joomla SEF uses the 'Alias' field, not title.

I got the shortest URL I wanted.
http://websitename.com/the-news/1-latest-news/44-you
'you' appears on the URL at the end, it is because I wrote 'you' in 'Alias' field. When I left the 'Alias' field empty, '-----------' shows at the end of the URL (instead of 'you'.
Thanks again RobInk & Vince.

* Mission accomplished!!!

Hi there;
I followed the suggestions to shorten the URL. But when I enabled the SEF in global configuration...all my older articles showed 404 error page. How can I update all articles after enabling the SEF?
