Hello
I guess we stand before the same questions like many others, that use Joomla for
more than a simple web site.
How many concurrent users can Joomla handle?
By which number of concurrent users becomes it slow?
By which number of concurrent users becomes it unuseable?
Which effect has the use of the caching?
Has anybody some experience about load tests done with Joomla v1.5 to share?
Or a real web site load experience?
Any response is appreciated.
Thanks :-)
Phil

I don't think that it's possible to say....Phil_use_Joomla wrote:How many concurrent users can Joomla handle?
It's not just a matter of Joomla, but also your server hardware,
server configuration, Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL version, etc.
Furthermore what 3rd party Joomla extensions are you going to use?
I read that some websites with enormous amounts of traffic experienced problems
with the jos_session table where all sessions are temporarily stored.
A possible solution for that could be to change the MySQL table type from the default MyISAM into InnoDB.
The following articles are regarding Joomla 1.0.x, but might give you some useful info regarding huge traffic websites:

I am recommending Joomla for a childrens site that is expected to have several thousand concurrent users. I have a colleague that is pushing Drupal and states that there are tests and data supporting the strength of its core structure and ability to have thousands of concurrent users. I do not care for Drupal myself and need to drum up some supporting documentation in support of Joomla, one of the most important being concurrent users.
So again, has anyone tested or been able to test the concurrent users as quoted above? Mind you, one answered that it depends on the server, let us suppose the server is a non-factor and the only factor is the Joomla software.
Thank you,
Ella

Re: How many concurrent users can Joomla handle?
This is very interesting to us as well. Don't mind the hardware ... lets say everyone else is running their sites on classic HP DL120 servers with slow harddrives on mirror config only to secure data and not speed and 4 GB RAM .... the very interesting question is who has built a large site on Joomla and what hardware did they use? Please everybody list your sites if you have 10000+ visitors a day here and lets us all check how those site feels to use for a normal user.....this is very interesting and any listing here would be so much preciated by us

Johan
