What to do with these Page Speed results ?

Post by adrien5555 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 7:16 pm

Hi folks,

my website (here) is almost done, and I currently have a Page speed score of 86, which is not too bad :D , thanks to Jbetolo (see in JED) and the free CDN Cloudflare.

I'd like to know if it's easy to get a faster site, but I dont understand Page Speed recommandations :

- Defer parsing of Javascript : 488.5KiB of JavaScript...
- Leverage browser caching...but cache is already enabled in J! config....as seen below
http://screencast.com/t/cMlC9IhldrT
Yahoo Slow adds:
- Combine background images with CSS sprites.
- Configure Entity Tags :eek:

Is it easy to follow one or several of these recommandations, and How to do that please ? thx, Adrien

For Leverage browser caching add the following in your htaccess

# BEGIN Cache-Control Headers
<IfModule mod_headers.c>
<FilesMatch "\\.(ico|jpe?g|png|gif|swf|css|gz)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=2592000, public"
</FilesMatch>
<FilesMatch "\\.(js)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=2592000, private"
</FilesMatch>
<filesMatch "\\.(html|htm)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=7200, public"
</filesMatch>
# Disable caching for scripts and other dynamic files
<FilesMatch "\.(pl|php|cgi|spl|scgi|fcgi)$">
Header unset Cache-Control
</FilesMatch>
</IfModule>
# END Cache-Control Headers

and For Configure Entity Tags add the following

Header unset ETag
FileETag None

See section on cache > client side.

Do you have other posts on this topic, or do you know of a good resource that already exists?
