Joomla 1.5 Frontend and Backend Login issues

Post by jas19500504 » Thu Jan 28, 2016 3:09 am

Hi All

I have joomla 1.5 highest release.
I will be migrating to newer upgrade version
This site has so much stuff I have to think about it a lot before I attempt migration

The site has been working perfectly until now.

When I try to login either from front end or backend, I get HTTP 500 error, website cannot display page.

I haven't changed or added a thing.
It was working perfectly and now I get the 500 error for which I do not have a clue.

Can someone give me some ideas where to start considering I do not do anything to the site.

Thanks

Generally it's a permissions issue and or a malformed .htaccess file.

BTW... in terms of migrating... only think about doing content... there is no bomb proof migration path. It's a rebuild
Step1. Read the instructions. Step2. Refer to step 1. Step 3. Backup

There are many reasons why you might be getting the 500 Error when trying to login, these include:

- A hacked website (which is a huge possibility, considering that you are using an exploitable Joomla version)
- A changed environment - in other words, your host has changed something in your environment, such as the file paths, and this can affect logins.
- A file/database corruption somewhere on your website.
- An extension that you have installed lately on your website (this is a remote possibility though, since you are using a very old version of Joomla).

It's really hard to tell the exact cause from a distance.

As for migrating the website, it really is, as the previous answered said, a rebuild, which has to be done sooner or later in order to protect your website. It is a hard task that takes some time on large websites (and a lot of planning), but it has to be done at one point.

I had a look at the error_log and found the following 3 sentences:

[27-Jan-2016 22:19:02 America/New_York] PHP Strict Standards: Non-static method JLoader::import() should not be called statically in /home/...../public_html/libraries/loader.php on line 186

[27-Jan-2016 22:19:02 America/New_York] PHP Strict Standards: Non-static method JLoader::register() should not be called statically in /home/...../public_html/libraries/loader.php on line 71

[27-Jan-2016 22:19:02 America/New_York] PHP Notice: Constant _JEXEC already defined in /home/........./public_html/administrator/index.php on line 29

I do not understand what they mean
Any comments

I would say the environment has changed and is causing these issues. I think your best option is to fix your Joomla installation to adjust to the new environment (since Joomla 1.5 has problems with newer environments). Your ideal option, of course, remains the migration to Joomla 3.x.

I don't understand your comments.
How do I fix Joomla installation to adjust to the new environment when I do not know what the problem is
Could you be a little more explicit

The only environment that I could think of that changed was my PHP version.

I went to my webhosting Cpanel and found I was using PHP 5.5 as of today.

Fortunately for me, I could select any previous PHP version
When I went back to PHP 5.4 everything is working now
