Eclipse plugin for MySQL: SQLExplorer or QuantumDB ?

Post by pe7er » Sat Aug 23, 2008 12:19 am

Currently I use phpMyAdmin to access a MySQL database during development of some component.
As I am switching to Eclipse with PHP plugin, I would also want to use a plugin for MySQL.

I have read about two MySQL plugins for Eclipse, but don't know which to choose:
SQLExplorer http://eclipsesql.sourceforge.net/
QuantumDB Eclipse Plugin http://quantum.sourceforge.net/
And maybe there are more...

Which one do most PHP/MySQL developers use in Eclipse?
Which one would you recommend (and why)?

PS: I use a 64 bit version of Eclipse on Ubuntu 8.04 (for AMD 64).

Unfortunately I did not get any recommendation, so I just had to choose one myself.

I chose for SQLExplorer because the screen dumps at their site looked somewhat more promising.

I had some troubles with selecting a database in SQL Explorer:
It costed me some time, experimenting, searching & reading,
almost switched to QuantumDB to give that a try,
but discovered that you should install some JDBC MySQL Connector before you could use SQL Explorer.

Now it is working fine!
