mod_sectionnav a menu system for navigating a Joomla site

Post by rg » Mon Nov 28, 2005 5:13 pm

mod_sectionnav is a module for Joomla 1.0.x that lets you create a navigation menu for the sections of your site. The menu that will be generated consists of three levels: sections, categories, and content items. Admins can specify the sections to be listed by entering a comma separated list of section IDs in the module configuration. The order of the entered IDs determines the order of the output list.

By default all specified sections will be displayed as an unordered list in the module. After clicking on a section link the categories in this section will be listed below the section link and a section blog is displayed in the main body area (mosMainBody). From here you can click on a category link to list the content items contained in this category and a category blog in the main body area. Then you can click on a content item link to display it in the main area. By default Access Keys are automatically assigned to the links for better accessibility of your site. With this module each content item can be accessed with a maximum of three clicks without the need of adding menu items for your content.

Ramiro, thanks a lot for your usefull tool. I really like it.

I have one question maybe somebody could help me out:

I have a menu structure, provided by mod_sectionnav. Like it should do, it shows my Sections- and Categories.
Below this (in the same template) I created a Menu with the mainmenu module, to provide links to some Components (Joomlaboard)
This structur is like this:

- Top Menu Link (Links to Joomlaboard)
-----Submenu Item (static link into a Forum Category)

My Problem:
The SECTIONNAV Menu Shows up when I click onto the TopMenu Link
BUT it does NOT show up when I click onto the Submenu Item Link.
(It should)

In the Modules-Menu in the Admin-interface I changed the setting that the SectionNav Menu should show up also on the Submenu Item Link. Somehow this does not work.
I did not find any answer, so I would be very happy If anybody in the Community has a hint, what I could do...
Thanks...

Have you tested whether other modules show up when you click on the submenu link?

I have one User-defined Module (to show some graphics) this is visible, but it is anyway defined to show up everywhere.
Other Modules (like f.e. the search module) du not show up.
Everything works, when I only click on the top-meu item. In the submenu´s it does not?

The first 4 links come from mod_sectionnav.
The Menu bellow "service" is a normal Menu from the mainmenu module.
If you click on any submenu item (to modules), mod_sectionnav disappears. (it should not)
Only one submenu link behaves diffrent: "database" (it links into a content category. Her everything works, like it should...

Strange?

the whole left side does not appear. May this be a problem with the template?

Actually that is the problem...
I use diffrent Templates for certain areas of the site. The problem arrises on the default template.

For example, if you have lots of content and don't want to add all menu items manually.

Version 1.6 is now available for download.

This new version of mod_sectionnav was released because the code had to be fixed to work with Joomla 1.0.10. There are no new features included.

Well, I use this module myself on http://www.ramiro.org, don't know whether you consider this an advanced example. I'd like to see some other usage examples as well but people rarely tell me that they use this module. Maybe I'm the only one using it ;)

Is there a update on the way for the module Sectionnav? I can't use it for Joomla 1.0.11?

I have tried to change the encoding for the xml document, but it's still not working.

You can see heavy use of this module on http://www.corpusweb.net --> Inside the Page the left menus are generated by mod_sectionnav
