Help! Youth Center web site in trouble with OpenSEF

Post by donromano » Mon Apr 30, 2012 5:28 pm

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I'm a volunteer at a Youth Center web site (http://www.nayouth.com) who once-upon-a-time came across this wonderful technology (Joomla) to donate his time to create and maintain a web site that everyone loves and really helps out the local Youth Center.

OK... now that I've got your pity and desire to help. :)

I've in the process of designing and completely porting their web site to the latest version of Joomla and am planning on implementing it when they're activities are lower in the coming months. Of course things break now right before I'm ready to leave the extremely outdated Joomla 1.0.x site.

I'm sure this is self inflicted but all of a sudden the friendly URLs are getting an extra '/' in them causing all sorts of issues. I haven't purposely edited anything that I can think of (configuration.php, etc) but I did clear caches and probably deleted some items from the 'wastebasket' that had been previously deleted. But I have no idea what actually triggered the problem. I've tried to do some research but I'm a database guy and not a programmer or web developer guy. I've tried to fix this for a couple of days but I'm hoping this is something fairly simple (read stupid) and someone can give me a lead to how to address this.

Here is the site information for http://www.nayouth.com and you can use Firefox or IE to see the examples. A major issue is that IE masks the bad URL but I have major issues with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, mobile browsers, etc.

Using Joomla 1.0.15 Stable
OpenSEF 2.0.0-RC5_SP2 for Joomla! 1.0.8

Database: MySQL 5.1.56
PHP: 5.2.17
Webserver: Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_fcgid/2.3.5
$mosConfig_live_site = 'http://www.nayouth.com'; (no trailing '/')

In OpenSEF under 'Manage Sites' the Domain name is 'www.nayouth.com'. (no trailing '/')

Firefox V.11
Home goes to http:/// (obviously doesn't work)
Other menu tables two '//' in URL: http://www.nayouth.com//who-we-are.html

IE 8

Home goes to http://www.nayouth.com// (note '//' at end)
Other menus have two '//' in URL: http://www.nayouth.com//who-we-are.html

Any pointers/help would be greatly supported!

Thanks so much,

Don

Apparently I cannot delete a posting.

I love Karma... after posting this I went back to try a few more things and noticed that under OpenSEF 'Manage Sites' I changed 'www.nayouth.com' to 'localhost'. It has always been www.nayouth.com and I have not changed that... but I noticed in the description that it could be local host as well.

I made the change and things seem to be working now. I'm not sure why... but since this site will be migrating to the current/supported platform shortly I'll just make sure I have a latest back up everything and hope nothing else breaks.

Thanks
