JCE Install Problems
I've tried to install the JCE mambot on all my sites, and receive a database error. The sites are all hosted at Godaddy (not sure if that matters). Here is the error:

Re: JCE Install Problems
Hi,
I encountered the same problem too. However, it is not about installing anything but just happens in some of the components. Error:
MA DB function failed with error number 2006
MySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT id, title, module, position, content, showtitle, params FROM jos_modules AS m WHERE m.published = 1 AND m.position = 'debug' AND m.client_id = 1 ORDER BY m.ordering

WHERE m.published = 1
AND m.position = 'debug'
AND m.client_id = 1
ORDER BY m.ordering
Our website is hosted at godaddy too.
I think it might be the Godaddy's problem but don't know where to debug.
Are you using a shared package too?

Yep, using Godaddy shared hosting here. Haven't had any problems on my end other than the JCE mambot so far.

I have this same problem... as of today! Weird! I have several Joomla sites hosted on GoDaddy servers and I've put JCE on most of them without an issue...but this site is a problem. Any word on the solution?

JInstaller::install: SQL Error. DB function failed with erro
I am trying to install Community Builder onto a Joomla 1.5.3 site. I am unable to install as it says: "JInstaller::install: SQL Error. DB function failed with error number 2006". I am using my businesses server and have used the zipped component successfully on several other sites on the server. Nothing has changed except this error is now preventing me from progressing. If anyone knows how to debug or bypass this error, can you please let me know how. Of interest, the SQL in the install file can be loaded successfully via phpMyAdmin.

2006 MySQL server has gone away
Joomla error number 2006 MySQL server has gone away.
The problem was a MySQL gone away error when installing on a server where I had successfully installed many times before.
My friend has solved this error for me. It is a bit of a read but should help others resolve thier problems in this area.

Re: JCE Install Problems
Hi,
you should have a look at my friends blog. He has identified what causes this and it is resolvable. This is a server settings issue and a Joomla! issue. Server limits and the way Joomla! processes installations cause this error.
I have also seen it when browsing to a site that is on a slow server, from a site that has a poor connection. The time taken to process the page, and the interaction with the database can exceed the server limits and cause this error.

Re: JCE Install Problems
lojason, if you're running J! 1.5.5, you won't find a solution in the 1.0.X forums. I also suggest you check out CB's site, they have a forum just for errors in CB.

Re: JCE Install Problems
I can't even get that far. I'm using GoDaddy as my host and the plugin installs fine, but I can't find it in the list of modules to enable it...so I don't know if I would encounter any of these other issues. Evey plugin I've installed does not show up in the module list. It's most frustrating. I get it showing in the menu, but I just can't enable it.
Of course, GoDaddy wont' help because it's a third party plugin.
Any help here to get it enabled would be appreciated!

Re: JCE Install Problems
The reason you can't find the plugin in the list of modules is because a plugin is not a module. Its a plugin. Check under extensions > plugins in Joomla and you should see it, but chances are it's already enabled.

Re: JCE Install Problems
You're absolutely right. I was having a bad Joomla day yesterday and frustrated beyond belief, so I wrote the wrong thing. It isn't showing up in the list and when I go to the JCE control panel, it tells me it's not enabled and to enable it in the plugin manager. Seems I'm in a catch 22 :-(
Thanks for the response, though.

Re: JCE Install Problems
Hmmm. I've never seen this error before. You say the plugin is not showing up in the plugin manager. Does it show up in the plugins file system? Go to your FTP and check <joomlaroot>/plugins/editors/
and make sure that the directory "jce" exists, and that there are two files: jce.php and jce.xml in the plugins directory. If it doesn't exist try installing again and make sure that you don't get any installation error messages. If it's there already try deleting it (directory and individual files) and reinstalling.
Also make sure you have installed the right plugin. There is a JCE editor plugin (required), and JCE Utilities (extra plugin).

Re: JCE Install Problems
It was installed in /joomla/administrator/components which I thought was weird the first time. I've installed and reinstalled it three times. I have the com_jce_152.zip file. I assumed that was the correct one when I downloaded it.
I even tried to manually move the files into the plugin directory after it installed...and it still didn't work. This is most perplexing.

Re: JCE Install Problems
Dfsmetsfan,
I did come across this thread that sounds somewhat like the issue you're having. Basically it relates to Firefox 3.0.1: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... &p=1391684
If this doesn't do the trick then let me take a look. Is this for the domain in your signature?

Re: JCE Install Problems
Well...thank you GDHosting. What I did was download plg_jce_152.zip, which I didn't have. I also used Safari (although I could have used Opera or even IE). I suppose Firefox would have worked as well, but it's finally showing in the Plugin directory and is enabled. I'm not sure why that isn't all included in the original download, but I have it now. Thanks to everyone who helped me with this issue. You all rock!

I can't even tell you how many hours I have put into my Joomla! / GoDaddy installation (and re-installation!). The answer was right here (probably 50 forum posts in searching before I found this one). Do not use Firefox! It worked on my IE! Go figure.
Thank you all.

I had the same problem and I remembered sometimes having the ftp layer enable on global configuration can cause problems, so I disable it and voila!! no more problems installing my components.... It worked for me!
