There's issues with a conflict between mootools and the javascript for jpfchat. Since many 1.5 templates use mootools, this can be a problem.

On the jpfchat website, they have the workarounds: http://www.jpfchat.com/index.php?option ... view&id=24

i would like to know (if it's possible), how to change the code, so that if user is logged on the site...then registered user-names would appear in chat?

Assuming Joomla 1.5, on the backend go to Components -> JPFchat -> Display

In the first drop-down box, set it to Username instead of Name, then click the Save button.

nop...Joomla 1.0.x i use...and i know this option in settings of component...but only that is not working...still makes random guest.

i saw in one review of component:

Code: Select all

Then, in the index.php file, I changed "Guest".rand(1,1000); // setup the intitial nickname Joomla username is ".$my->username." to $params["nick"] = _getUser(); and now the registered users' names appear.
he probably means --> jpfchat.php ...and i tried that..but didn't work...returns me an error

Code: Select all

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in *\components\com_jpfchat\jpfchat.php on line 53
my part of the code where this is changed:

Code: Select all

if (strlen($uname)>0) {
   if (false === strpos("*".$jPFCparams['isadmin'], $uname)) {
        $jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;
   } else {
        $jPFCparams['isadmin'] = true;
   }
   $iconv_string = (($displayChoice == "Name") ? $name : $uname );
} else {
   $jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;
//   $iconv_string = 'guest'.rand(100,999);
   $iconv_string = '.$my->username.' to $params['nick'] = _getUser();           // <--- line 53
}
if anyone can help ?

i partly resolved my upper problem (that in chat registered usernames appear)...
tho i got new problem now and i know why, just i don't know how to fix it.

i copied my site to local harddisk....with wamp2 i got local server and i'm running the site...but jpfchat is not working. it says -->

Code: Select all

Error: 'chat.js.tpl.php' could not be found, please check your themepath '/home/mydomain/public_html/components/com_jpfchat/pfc/src/../themes' and your theme 'phpbb2' are correct
that error is becouse of server change. that means i would have to change paths somewhere, but i don't know where.

PLS help.

ofcourse..as i said, i only partly solved the problem.

in the code of index file --> *\components\com_jpfchat\jpfchat.php, u have to add next line (somewhere between line 190 and 200).

original code:
if (strlen($uname)>0) {

if (false === strpos("*".$jPFCparams['isadmin'], $uname)) {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;

} else {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = true;

}

$iconv_string = (($displayChoice == "Name") ? $name : $uname );

} else {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;
$iconv_string = 'gost'.rand(100,999);

}
added line (red one):
if (strlen($uname)>0) {

if (false === strpos("*".$jPFCparams['isadmin'], $uname)) {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;

} else {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = true;

}

$iconv_string = (($displayChoice == "Name") ? $name : $uname );
$iconv_string = $uname;

} else {

$jPFCparams['isadmin'] = false;
$iconv_string = 'gost'.rand(100,999);

}
added line cause next; if registered user first log him self into the site, and then goes to jpfChat...his username appear in the Chat.

if username first goes to chat, his name will still be as a guest(random)! if after that he log him self, the guest name won't change to username...that problem i still didn't figure it out how to fix.

P.S. anyone know how to fix my other problem (with wrong paths)?

I use this chat and me too had some problems first.
When you created the chat menu did you created it as a wapper not as a component menu?
Did you entered to serverscripped url:
http://www.ursite/index.php?option=com_jpfchat?

Hello, I too have some problems with this chat extension.

At first I had problems with registering users in Online users list, one function was written in a wrong way in pfcclient.js. I fixed it, but now I'm facing another problem.

When I'm running this chat on my local server, everything is just fine,perfect. But, when I'm running it on web server, I'm constantly receiving error message that I'm not connected to chat. I am logged in website, because only registered users are able to use the chat and the app loads fine, I'm even getting the message that I've joined the room, but I can't write anything because of that "not connected" error. It's the same in Opera and IE8. I even tried to clear cache and nothing happened.

I'm using Joomla 1.5.15 and I'm already sick of this stupid extension!! Why publish it if so full of bugs?!

I have jPFChat working well on our site and have one quwestion: Can you somehow have appear on the site's home page how many people are chatting in jPFChat. I think of the jPFChat home page they do this in the left column but there's no indication in any FAQ or documentation I can find as to how they accomplish this. It would be great to have as people would see, for example, there is a person waiting in chat and would join them.

Couple of issues - 1) when typing in the chat room, I cannot see the text I am typing, and it doesn't appear until I hit send. 2) How do you create another chat room? I see the default is 5, but I don't see where to create them.

I would have gone to the jPFChat site, but unfortunately it appears to be down? I can't access any of their pages.

I am running Firefox 3.6.2 on a Mac OS X with Joomla 1.5

If you do to main setting, Initial Channels. there you can put the name of the rooms you want. Separating them with coma.

In the first drop-down box, set it to Username instead of Name, then click the Save button.
