I have a Video (.MPG) that I want to show on my site. Do I need an Extension to play this video?

An easy way without use any extension is to upload this video to [youtube] and after you can show it with embed code in an article.

I don't want to upload it to [youtube]. I have uploaded it to my Host, and I want to play it from my site.

No need to unzip it. You must install it from extensions manager-install the zip file

When I try to install the package, I get this message:

ERROR: Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.

You can correctly identify the Joomla version if you use the Forum Post Assistant tool and post the report here on this forum. 8)

Joomla 1.0 . Very very old and EOL . I suggest you to to update your joomla to the latest joomla version(now it s 3.7.2) and your php version too, as with this it s very possible to get hacked and also you will not find extensions. By the way All Videos not support joomla 1.0 .

This is an old mature website. I have been keeping it up-to-date for a decade or more. I am hesitant to upgrade Joomla for fear of losing something, or worse, shutting down the website.

What is the least risk way to update it?

The least risk is to not find some extensions that you used but i am sure that you will find similar to do your job. You can do the update local to your pc with xampp or wamp or uniform server and after when you will finish you copy your updated joomla site to your live server. Ofcource when you will have a joomla 3.7.2 site it s good to update your php version too as the version that you have now is not playing a joomla 3.x.x website.

I downloaded XAMPP and bitnami. I now have Joomla 3.7.2 running on my PC. How do I migrate my Joomla 1.0 site to 3.7.2?
