Am i doing this right,,,

Post by 3wP » Tue May 29, 2007 6:29 pm

Hi all!

First of all,, congrats on a great template  :D

I have donne quite a few css changes on the beez template to change the looks of the template i use at my test site for J1.5 beta 2. Hovewer, i am a totaly noob in many areas of joomla and also it's functions. But i am trying to get a grip of things as i progress and right now i'm stepping into learning how to position modules and make them appear correctly in my test site.

I have added the banner module to my header in the beez template and i also got it to appear correctly and things like that, but, i want to ask if someone also could help me confirm if i have donne things the right way or if it another way of aproaching to render the banner module correctly with the beez template in order to enshure it all gets to be compliant and stuff.

The thing that makes me want to check this out, is that right now i use a css id and then call it's functions in the index.php file, like this:

layout.css

Code: Select all

/*  Banners in header  */
#banner
{
        display:block;
 	    position: absolute; top: 30px; right: 15px;
}
index.php

Code: Select all

 <div id="banner">
   				<p> <jdoc:include type="modules" name="banner" /></p>
   			</div>
			<jdoc:include type="modules" name="user3"  />
			<jdoc:include type="modules" name="user4" />

			<div id="breadcrumbs">
   				<p> Breadcrumb: <jdoc:include type="module" name="breadcrumbs" /></p>
   			</div>
But in the above example, the :

are put there without being atached to a div it appears, and i wonder how those positions gets their calls for rendering how and "where" they appear in the layout of the page. I guess it has something to do with the templateDetails.xml or something but i get confused all the time when i try to get into understanding how this works. But basicaly i wonder what i must do to make my kode look like this:

Code: Select all

[code]
   			<jdoc:include type="modules" name="banner" />
			<jdoc:include type="modules" name="user3"  />
			<jdoc:include type="modules" name="user4" />

			<div id="breadcrumbs">
   				<p> Breadcrumb: <jdoc:include type="module" name="breadcrumbs" /></p>
   			</div>
Meaning of course that as the user3 and user4 gets it css class from somewhere, so will the banner position,,,,

but where and how lol???

Or could someone show me the steps of how to correctly add the mod_banner to my header so that i can learn this propperly..

here is my test site if you want to check out how the banner position is now..

Cool :)

Then i know i at least ain't on the "wild track" lol. Best way to learn is by asking and for a newbie like me who only have learned what i know (about websitebuilding/templates) by reading info from websites and learning the basic skills by testing and failure,, these confirmations of that i'm doing it in a ok way, is valued highly.

In fact, the beez template is a exelent tool for understanding and learning the structure and contents of css files and other needed files to render a website profesionally. I at least, have learned a lot from studying this template and it's files and soon i know it like my own pocket lol...

Ty for helping!
