website getting hang every hour

Hi,
I am using joomla 3.3.3 and my websites gets hang every hour for five to six minutes it takes more than 60% of server memory i am using VPS with 4GB of RAM. i tried disabling every module one by one but the problem is still there. it seems that there is some database activity which is eating memory and causing website down. kindly suggest how to check where exactly the problem is?

Did you configure your VPS to create backups?

Could you check your server's crontabs ? (= scheduled tasks/processes that are performed automatically)

Or use the command line command "top" when the performance decrease happens,
and compare the processes with normal performance.

Thanks for your reply, I have not configured any backup and there is no cron jobs running every hour that i already had checked, in top command, when site goes down so many process starts from the website user using 185M to 195M VIRT memory and every user has command php.
so how to check which php commands are running so many times every hour.
