Just to confirm I also get the error "Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server" from metaWeblog.newMediaObject.... I suspect it is a filesystem issue when used with non-ftp mode, but don't know how to go about debugging from there....

Hi,

I have implemented the metaweblogapi an joomla 1.5.3. (apache / ubuntu hardy)

The upload of images via the "API" is not working for me. The image is actually uploaded to the media/Administrator folder however ScribeFire sits at "uploading" and never returns.

Can you offer any assistance?

Hi there,

I'm testing the plugin with ecto, and I'm getting this error:

MetaWeblog API plugin and MovableType XML-RPC Plugin
I would love to use these plugins with Windows Live Writer.
I have so far not been able to.

I am using Joomla 1.5.3 stable

I have some questions:

1. I have followed the instructions here but no go.
Cannot get Windows Live Writer to connect let alone post.
Do you have to have have a News or other specific content type
already created to use this? Only thing I haven't done.

2. Do you still need to disable blogger API?

2. Is this facility now built into Joomla 1.5.3?
and if so where is any information as to how to use it?

I'll follow with errors if helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!
I'm tring to use your plugins to make flock work as Blog Editor.
In the beginning it looks like Flock auto configuration is working fine. When i have to input the login username and psw I get the same error diplayed by auto configuration CyrusCO on apr 26, 2008 5:48 pm.
Image
No matter which username or password i try to use (i have 3 administrator accounts) i always get the same error.
I'm actually using Joomla 1.5.2, Metaweblog API and RSD 1.3.
Could you help me understand this?
Thanks
Manuki

For others who may need help.
This is how I finally got this to work.

MetaWeblog Setup Instructions
For Windows Live Writer

In Joomla:

1. Install and enable the MetaWeblog plugin
2. Install and enable the RSD plugin
3. Enable Web Services
Login to administrator
Go to Global configuration System Tab
Mark Enable Web Services to Yes

Note: 1.5.2 and earlier may need to disable the blogger plugin
(not neccesary in 1.5.3)

In Windows Live Writer:

1. Create a new account
2. Type the url of your homepage and your username and password

Note: If the auto configuration doesn't work:
You may need to Select MetaWeblog API in the type of blog
the XML-RPC url is http://yoursite.com/xmlrpc/index.php

The MetaWeblog plugin is working fine with ScribeFire. However, I am only seeing 20 of my post entries listed in ScribeFire. How can I make changes to my older posts? Is the limitation to 20 posts coming from the MetaWeblog plugin or from ScribeFire? How can I increase the number of listed posts? Thanks.

I have same exact problem.
Images are not getting uploaded, (or I don't know where they are going)

Settings:
Joomla 1.5.4
Editor: Scribefire 2.2.9
Editor can post text edits no problem, so api seems to work
FTP acct: set up and tested via ftp on port 21, path root is to /images/stories
Global J Settings: FTP enabled with ftp account settings above

I am trying to upload images both via FTP and API (in scribefire) and it just hangs there.
What have I not understood about how this works?

When I test simple FTP access I can get in (fireftp, winscp on 21, etc.)
Not sure what to do.

Thanks

Darnit, I found the files!
They are all going under /media/<username>

Why are they going there?
I set the path for FTP to be to /images/stories/
I set the FTP account to log directly into /images/stories/ as its root

The API is somehow bypassing these settings?

Hi, all

I'd like to develop joomla xml-rpc too. But I now try to develop client application. Does anyone has source for ScribeFire or any tools that access joomla xml-rpc. Thank for any help, I'll be waiting.

I couldn't get the RSD plugin to install so I compared the xml file with the one in the metaweblog and found that it is missing the DOCTYPE statement. I copied and pasted it from one xml to the other and everything worked fine.

I had tried manually configuring some of the blogging tools before installing the RSD plugin. I had a lot of misc. problems. Now that the RSD configures automatically, I'm finding that almost everything works smoothly.

Thanks for your work on this. It is a great tool I have been looking for.

This works brilliantly with Live Writer - all automatic!!.

However - one point I must add is that if you are using it with AEC 0.12.4.8 it kicks out the get.userblogs error.

Just one to watch out for until an update happens.

All,

I have seen this work before but don't have access to that system anymore. This is very slick and I would really like to make this work.

I'm having the same issue that others seem to be having here. WLW publishes text just fine, jpg images create this error:

***
The response to the metaWeblog.newMediaObject method received from the weblog server was invalid:

Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server
***

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04
PHP Built on: Linux symbiosoft 2.6.24-19-virtual #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 15:52:10 UTC 2008 i686
Database Version: 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.1
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3
Web Server: Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3 with Suhosin-Patch
Web Server to PHP interface: apache2handler
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.7 Production/Stable [ Wovusani ] 9-September-2008 23:00 GMT

I don't think this is a permissions issue, all directory permissions from Help, System Info show "Writeable"

Do I need my PHP to be at version 5.2.5?

Any suggestions and or can someone please point me to how to troubleshoot this?

:-[

EDIT:

After checking the apache error log I'm seeing this when I try to post:

'XML-RPC: xmlrpc_server::service: http headers already sent before response is fully generated. Check for php warning or error messages"

I set "display_errors = On" in the php.ini but I don't see any errors in /var/log/messages.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

Hey, just wanted to bump this up. I've re-installed several times with no luck. I have noticed that the images get uploaded to /images/<username> before getting the "Invalid Response" message back form the XmlRpc server.

For some reason, I can't seem to get logging to work. Any help is appreciated.

After much troubleshooting and gnashing of teeth, one thing that I learned was that getting Windows Live Writer, the Metaweblog plugin, J1.5 and a recent linux implementation (PHP, XML, etc.) such as the one above will not work without some serious de-bugging/re-coding.

After the installation and activation of the MoveableType plug-in and disabling metaweblog, WLW and the image uploads work perfectly. Open a can of your favorite tasty beverage, lather, rinse repeat.

Hi Justo, nice plugin. Seems to work great with w.bloggar, but I am also getting the same error quoted here when using Live Writer and ScribeFire.

Any suggestions?

Hi All,

I just thought I give it a whirl again because the first time Justo created his plugin it worked like a dream. This was at the start of this thread.
Also a couple of J! release further on and newer version of Scribefire.
I keep getting this error "Unkown method" and therefore downed the latest plugin (incl. rsd). This made no difference.
So, I thought may be to test with WLW. That started doing its thing, could pick up the complete info from my website and I was happy. Until it came to posting and the happiness disappeared because of this error. Somewhere in the code must be a ref. to a method that does not exist.
Any bright idea's of you guys who had the same problem?
Note: Sending me private messages for personal support, without this been requested, would lead to ignoring any of your posts in future!

Hi @ all!

Just like to know if there is any update in progress on this fine plugin...

I am encountering same problem as pvh123 with LWL and it does not work as well with BlogDesk.

I am using Joomla 1.5.8...

Another problem, which until now nobody seemed to think of, is how to post in a multilingual Joomla installation (talking about Joom!Fish). Are there any ideas how to manage sending different languages to the same kategorie?!

Thanks alot for any feedback!

Re: XML-RPC MetaWeblog API plugin & Zoundry Raven USB

Postby whtdragon » Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:09 am

Just tested this with http://www.ZoundryRaven.com and it worked like a champ once I got all the updated files from Justo. Loaded Metaweblog and RSD and already had web services enabled. I tried with a couple of earlier versions of Zoundry but think the RSD was wrong.

Any how, I wanted to thank everyone for this great piece of work. I now need to just get all my blog pings working and pick up from my old Wordpress site.

Oh, btw.. I'm running Raven from my USB drive. Other than some of the browser-based bloggers I think it's the only one out there doing this. I did a quick test and was able to upload both a justified table and image without issue..

I'll post more if I encounter any problems..
Thanks again,

It works OK, but when I publish article first time with letter "ó" in topic - it works OK,
but when I publish again (update), then topic is not corect:
Topic in WLW: "Próbny artykuł"
On site: "Pr"

Topic in WLW: "To jest artykuł dla uczniów"
on site: "To jest artykuł dla uczni"

Please, help me!

Hi,
I found error in metaweblog API plugin v 0.9.
In line 345 is:
$item->title = html_entity_decode($content['title']);
In function :
html_entity_decode ( string $string [, int $quote_style [, string $charset ]] )
ISO-8859-1 is default!

So, I change it to:
$item->title = html_entity_decode($content['title'], ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8');
and it works! Everythig is OK!

Problem is only with Windows Live Writer. ScribeFire works OK!
But in WLW, when I publish article first time with letter "ó" in topic - it works OK,
but when I publish again (update), then topic is not corect:
Topic in WLW: "Próbny artykuł"
On site: "Pr"

Topic in WLW: "To jest artykuł dla uczniów"
on site: "To jest artykuł dla uczni"

After change in line 345 WLW publish and update articles OK!
I attach file with my small change. Test it.
