Joomla 1.0.x Return Cat ID?

Hello.

Quick question that is no doubt very easy but does anyone know how i could return the current category id of a page in joomla (displayed in a module) and by doing so be able to show the number of entries for that id.

What i am trying to achieve is a slight module modification for jreviews where it returns the current category id the module is being displayed in, and works out the true Bayesian estimate rating, which needs to know the average rating for that entire section, so in this case it would look for the category id, and then show all results in that section, and from that i could work out the average of all results.

Thanks for your help, what is the suggestion for working out category id of current page being displayed?
