Discussion about closure of Joomlashine templates business

Post by majedtappo » Thu Sep 16, 2021 9:56 am

Hi Everybody,

I hope the developers of Joomla read this and really think about the problem, There is a Joomla Extensions Team Called "JoomlaShine" And after 14 years in buisnes and more than 550,000 users now Suddenly they decided to close and end the buisnes, We are talking about a looooooooooot of sites using there products and now all of the users are really tinking about moving to WordPress or another CMS because they have to start from the begaining and they are really afraid that this could happen again with another Joomla PageBuilder.

Dear Joomla Developers and Admins, I am a Joomla user since 2006 and i really like it, but we all know the hard competition between WordPress and Joomla and i think, the happening of this in this critical time with Joomla 4 release is not good.

please visit there site and read the Suppport form and you will get the size of the trouble.

Sorry to hear that your favorite template supplier is closing their business.

Building a business based on selling lifetime subscriptions seems not financially viable in the long run. Because that way a business won't have enough financial resources for new development or support in the long term.

Agreed, if it's monthly payment, just $1/MO, so 550,000 customers will covert all maintain cost and project won't stop :(. I think it's time template providers should move to monthly fee instead for yearly or lifetime subscriptions.

Normally I wouldn't get involved in any discussion, anywhere, about when a template business closes. For the record, I don't use Joomlashine [JSN] products on any of my J! websites. I can't remember if (over the past 11-12 years) I have ever used JSN products. If that makes me unqualified to discuss this subject then so be it.

I have had experience helping people who have used JSN products that were the cause of problems. I can say that the simplest remedy in most of those cases was to uninstall the JSN products that people were using.

I don't believe the exaggerated number—in excess of half-a-million people—claimed to be customers of JSN products. I don't believe that half-a-million people are simply going to abandon the J! ship and swim their way to WP. I simply don't believe the leap-of-faith that the OP expects us to make. Where do we get numbers like "550,000 Joomla users" who are considering moving to WP? If you can show me where those numbers come from then we might be able to have a meaningful discussion.

I think there's a lot of confected emotion about the closure of JSN business. Indeed, I only heard about it yesterday when someone sent me a private message. I looked at Twitter just a few moments ago and, you know what, there's no mention of JSN anywhere that I could find.

Yes, I understand that some people will feel unhappy when the company they obtained their templates goes out of business. I, personally, can't remember the last time I wrote to a template business to ask for support. The templates that I have the most problems with are the official J! templates (and, so, I spend a lot of time on this forum and on GitHub obtaining advice about known problems). I use a handful of third-party templates but I don't have many reasons to require support.

Nothing is going to change just because JSN is closing their doors. It's not "Template Armageddon" when it happens; it's not even an apocalyptic event for Joomla! Life (and websites) will go on.

I understand that uncertainty people may fear if (or when) new releases of J! or J! extensions are not going to co-operate nicely with JSN software; however, there's nothing new in that statement, either. JSN products have a history of requiring continual changes when new J! software releases take place. I would say that JSN products need more work to maintain them than other software needs; that's just my opinion, though, based on over ten years of experience in watching what people write about on this forum.

Just because JSN is closing its doors does not mean that J! websites will cease working. It's the same as thinking that all J! 3.x websites will cease functioning from 17 August 2023 when official "support" ends. Even today there are still J! 1.5 websites on the internet that are still working; some of them use old JSN software.

There's little room for sentimentality in business. Of course I wish the JSN developers all the very best. I wish the same to all members of the community. I don't think we should cry a river, though, just because one template developer (out of hundreds who make a living in the template market) has decided to call it a day.

So many template and extension developers seem to fail to understand the basic economics of business.

So many template end extension developers fail to live up to their own marketing. A business with 500k users that can't find a buyer - cough cough

Hi

Just sharing my thought here.. I don't really know what is the real reason for the closure, but yeah..

I'm one of their happy customer, I used the extensions only, not the template since I'm more into the framework customization over using the ready made templates

They no longer offer lifetimes membership, since past few years ago, if i remember correctly, but the template and extension qualities is good, super easy to use and works well

It just that the new features is kinda rare, at least on my own observation .. nevertheless, the existing functions is more than enough since it's depend on the webmaster itself to tinkering with the available features

I hope they can make a come back someday, and change the pricing scheme IF it is really needed, maybe some users might not like it, but it's a win-win situations for all of us here ~ fair game

To JoomlaShine team, from the original line-up to the latest member who will support this entire last year of operation, you guys rock! 8)

See you around! We will wait for your return soon.. :D
