Price changes / addition for Google reCAPTCHA
I think a lot of you are also using Google reCAPTCHA in your Joomla website.
In January 2024 I received a "billing notice" from Google about Price changes for Google reCAPTCHA product tiers.
Currently I have been using reCAPTCHA v3 and reCAPTCHA v2 (reCAPTCHA Classic) for years without paying anything.
According to the email, there will be a new "reCAPTCHA Standard" for bot protection at $8/month for up to 100,000 assessments per month.
The reCAPTCHA no-cost product will be renamed to reCAPTCHA Lite, providing protection for up to 10,000 instead of 1 million assessments per month.
The email further states that no action is required for reCAPTCHA Classic (Non-Enterprise) customers.
You can upgrade to reCAPTCHA Standard or reCAPTCHA Enterprise to use the additional features.
I manage several websites where I use reCAPTCHA v3 or reCAPTCHA v2. It remains to be seen whether it will be more than 10,000 assessments per month. I can't see that at a glance for all sites together.
The information about this on the internet is very limited. When I log in to the Google reCAPTCHA dashboard, there is nothing to see about these changes and how to approach them. You would expect that more information should now be available in the Google reCAPTCHA dashboard.
To avoid any problems, I try to figure out what to do if the limits are exceeded.
But I'm stuck because there is so little information available about it.
Does anyone know more about this?
How to find a total of all assessments for all sites under management?
How to pay that $8/month?
And whether those 8 dollars will be applicable to "all sites" under management?
I have already switched to hCaptcha for a number of sites.
Best regards,
Jeroen

Don't use Google, but find alternatives. There are Extensions in the JED.

Re: Price changes / addition for Google reCAPTCHA
I have already switched to hCaptcha for a number of sites.
Staying with reCaptcha has more to do with the fact that for some forms / sites it is not (yet) possible to switch to an alternative without it costing the necessary work. I assume there are plenty of people who use Google Recaptcha and are stuck with this.
So I hope anyone can shed some light on this.

Re: Price changes / addition for Google reCAPTCHA
I have read it.
But that's not the point right now.
To avoid any problems, I try to figure out what to do if the limits are exceeded.
- Does anyone know more about this?
- How to find a total of all assessments for all sites under management?
(In the meantime, I have manually mapped this out for each website.)
- How/where to pay that $8/month?
- And whether those 8 dollars will be applicable to "all sites" under management or has to be paid for each site that comes above the 10.000 assessments per month limit?
At the moment there is so little information available about it.
I'm actually hoping someone has already figured it out.

Why would you want to pay when there are better for free? If captcha protects your forms then the others will do the same....

Seems like the simplest answer is to ask Google. And good luck with that.three_d wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 9:53 amI have read it.

Re: Price changes / addition for Google reCAPTCHA
If I knew how to reach them I would.
Because I've used different forms software over time and Google Recaptha always worked well with it. There was never a need to use another captcha solution. It's quite a job to convert a lot of forms to other form software and saddle customers with costs.
Which captcha solutions do you use and which do you like best?
