What makes Joomla more secure?
I've faced security issues with my WordPress car rental website, hacked twice by phishers. Now, I'm considering Joomla for better security. What makes Joomla more secure, and how does it compare in terms of vulnerabilities to WordPress?

Re: Joomla Security
The WordPress core itself has no known security problems. The security problems with WordPress are mainly due to 3rd party plugins that are installed. With WordPress you have to install a lot of third-party plugins to get a functional website. And not all third-party plugins are made with security in mind.
Joomla already has a lot of functionality built into the core: fully configurable User Management and ACL (Access Control List), Multilingual Support, Custom Fields, Menu Management, Built-in Caching, Built-in SEO Features (like meta description).
So with Joomla you'll need less 3rd party extensions which makes it easier to maintain and less chances on security issues.
Other benefits of Joomla are that its PHP codebase is designed using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles. And its database is better designed and optimized for large websites.
Keep in mind that with both CMS systems, you need to keep all software up-to-date and make regular backups.

See https://developer.joomla.org/security.html
J5 doesn't have a captcha but there are several options in the extensions directory
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... y-captcha/
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... aptcha-v3/
https://extensions.joomla.org/extension ... turnstile/
look promising

Re: What makes Joomla more secure?
Hmm, yes, I've encountered plugin issues as well. Considering migrating from WordPress to Joomla, I'm concerned about the potential impact on my website's ranking and layout. Could you also provide insight into whether I can replicate the exact design on Joomla? Here's my website for reference: [ redacted ]
Moreover, I'm unsure if I should hire a developer for the migration and design in Joomla or if it's feasible for me to handle it myself. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: What makes Joomla more secure?
I work both with Joomla and Wordpress, depending on the type of website I need to build. Both CMS are good in term of security, but you need to proper understand the flaws to address them. Starting from the installation, I try to randomize things like database prefix, admin user, strong passwords. I also use custom rules in .htaccess to reduce the possible holes in my security.
Anyway, on the other hand, using plugins or extensions from 3rd parties, makes your website more vulnerable, because they may also have vulnerabilities. So try to use only the necessary ones and from trusted sources.
Also, never use cracked themes or extensions, because this kind of resources are usually made vulnerable for future exploits.

What additional measures would you recommend for enhancing security when using third-party plugins and extensions on Joomla and WordPress sites?trupaamigos wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 7:55 am I work both with Joomla and Wordpress, depending on the type of website I need to build.
