Is Joomla more secure that WP?

Post by dissindia » Tue Dec 12, 2017 12:28 pm

I already have a site in joomla editing proofreading malaysia and am building another site for my client. But I am unsure if joomla is more secure than WP or not. Any advise will be helpful.

You need regularly update both core and extensions and get extensions only from developers sites.
Also you must use .htaccess root file and can install some special extensions, like Admin Tools.
But most important is just keep your site up to date. Same for WP or any other open-source CMS.

There is solid security majors available with the Joomla. Configuration itself has more security than the other CMS. Joomla plugins has more security plugins.

Here is the helpful link for you - https://docs.joomla.org/Security

I have heard it said (by several devs) that wp sacrifices changes in code to ease backward compatibility for the less savvy user. As a result that makes their core code more vulnerable. (Yes a I expect many devs to jump on me for that statement and express it more accurately).

do you actually mean that you have a diss erta tion writing service in malaysia?
This topic has been done so many times i will look for the other 1post wonders and merge them.
you should compare joomla core to any other CMS core before you add extensions then you should compare all the variations of server set ups. follow the docs link provided.

I strongly believe that the security level is more or less the same. WordPress has a bigger market share and that explains why more vulnerabilities have been discovered.

I think Lefteriskvavdas is right,

WP is more widely used and thus it seems that it get hacked more easily, since there are more attempts to do so.
At a company i Working in erlier which did not run on either Joomla or WP er constantly got spammy requests trying to access /wp-login.php (which did not exist). I belive these requests only came because all major bots etc. are just trying out for WP, since so many websites are build upon it...

Both CMS safe enough but WordPress is more prevalent, therefore, it is often hacked. Both CMS have their vulnerabilities. It is better to configure the protection at the server level to reduce the likelihood of hacking. This solution works well for me and my clients.

Not a big problem with Joomla. Wipe the files, install Joomla to a separate database and install 3rd party extensions. Then edit configuration.php to connect to the original database.

The biggest part is securing the site to prevent it happening again.

99% percent of hacked sites Joomla or Wordpress is because of crap components and not the core code.
Since these days every one thinks he/she is a developer because he/she was able to copy and paste some code... it really makes me sick sometimes

4 weeks ago a client called and wanted to add an extension he already picked, was really nice to see that the dev did have a free version in the JED, what really wasn't nice was the fact that it took me 2 seconds to tell my client to choose another extension, because if i saw
global $mainframe (in a native 3.6+ extension)
I did knew that I don't have to look any further into this crap copy code to decide that I don't want it.
