From WP to Joomla - What was your biggest challenge?
I have just started to learn about Joomla, coming from Wordpress.
For those of you that have walked down this road before me, what was your biggest challenge? And what are your best tip, based on your experience?

I have not converted anything from WP, but other systems. The biggest challenge is always the messy html code of the old system.

imho the 'biggest challenge' is for the wp user to realise that Joomla is far superior. Once they do that then the decision is easy.

Just to follow up: Would it be beneficial to move a webshop from WP to Joomla, and in which case; why?

Hi.
It depend on pricing but i think you don't need change platform for current site if it's working normally.
And now Joomla in the migration period - 3.x will be upgraded to 4.0 so if you make site on current version you will need upgrade it in 1-2 year.
It only make sense if you want many new functions to implement and have good shopping component on concrete platform in mind.
For example, Joomla have modern good-looking PhocaCart shop, but it constantly upgraded so you will pay to webmaster too for correctly update the site even if shop is free ...

Thanks for answering. Do you happen to know of a list with Joomla! Developers in Norway (preferably Oslo)? I think it would be easier to have a meeting face-to-face and get more details.effrit wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:02 pmHi.

Sorry, i don't have such list because i am from Russia ).
And, if you want "face-to-face" meeting its more like web studio (they have manager(s) for it), not single developer.
So price will be definitely higher compared to single programmer.
If you concern about pricing you must thinking about more cheap way of communications.

Re: From WP to Joomla - What was your biggest challenge?
A partial list of things that Joomla! does or has out of the box that WP does not:
Multilingual content functionality
The ability to assign modules to some pages and not others.
Switch from one template (theme) to another (and back) without losing anything.
Create specific and unique access control levels that show or hide specific content or functions.
Create unique templates(themes) and assign them to specific pages without having to create another instance of the CMS.
Manage images in an /images directory instead of the ugly /wp-content/uploads/ with it's ridiculous self-generated date related sub-directories.
An editor that creates articles that use <p> tags - exporting content out of WP is a real pain if it's not going into another WP site.
Install and use an alternative admin template/theme.
Control of caching including support for memcached caching.
The ability to turn off site-generated RSS feeds.
The ability to turn Gzip Page Compression on or off.
Create 301 redirects without editing the .htaccess file.
Control whether or not the page title shows up on every page.
Change CMS language output without hacking the code (language overrides)
Add custom fields for articles (pages/posts)
Messaging system to send private messages from one user to another from within the CMS
Customize the logo on the administrator log in page without hacking code.
Customize the administration interface with any color scheme you want.
Obviously both platforms have extensions that add functionality to match the other, but to reiterate, this is my list of stuff that Joomla! does natively that WP does not. Extensions or plugins that "Everyone Uses" do not count as Joomla! has those also.
