Issues in uninstalling a particular framework

Post by spikespiegel » Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:03 pm

I totally agree with an user here viewtopic.php?t=808309 when he says Joomla Shine should be banned from the community.

I used a JSN Template for quite a time, and then one day I decided to change the template, installed another one from another framework and removed the JSN one. But lately I've been noticing that every time I try to update the extensions, I see this "System - JSN Template Framework". When I tried to uninstall it, it said it's a protected extension, then I checked another site of mine and there was no JSN framework there. So Joomla Shine team, why [ redacted ] do you protect an extension that is not even a Joomla core component? "Ah, because we need it for the JSN extensions working", that's your problem, not mine. There's people saying you have to reinstall Joomla to remove that thing, but WHY? If you can't code properly, then what are you guys doing here? The best part here is that it tells me to update, but when I try, it fails. lol

So now I've got a protected outdated extension that is good for nothing, or is there anything shady behind it? :)

PS: And they don't offer anything, any tutorial teaching how to uninstall their protected stuff.

You can unprotect it by editing it in the database. Then uninstall it in Joomla.

It is as safe as you are accurate. Just find the record for it in the extensions table and (in the correct column) change a 1 to a 0 (zero). I cant remember the name of the column but you cant miss it. Just make a backup of your database.

I can't even find JSN in the list. Looks like they have even make sure that it's "unfindable".

So I have found and removed JSN framework plugin. So far so good.
I recommend you guys to stay away from them. When I tried to contact them by chat, they told me a lot of things, but didn't solve anything, then they asked me for a super admin account. Well, if they're able to create a protected extension that there's nowhere in the universe teaching how to remove it, then will they be reliable if we give them a super admin account? I rather not risk.
