Examples of community websites?

I am interested in created a multi-vendor website for the community I live in. Most multi-vendor sites I have found consist of 1 store with multiple vendor products in it. What I want to create is 1 site with multiple vendor sites within it. Not a bunch of products from different vendors all mixed together. I also plan to make this a community site where visitors can browse events going on in the area, reviews of events, highlights of news in the community, etc... An all around community site.

Does anybody know of any community sites like this? I'd like to see what some other people have done if there are any like what I have in mind.

Hi, Isn't it like eBay or Amazon or Alibaba? Am not sure of it but as you mentioned "multi-vendor site" those came to my mind.

Thanks for responding. Yes and No. Yes, those sites do have multiple sellers, even with their own shop sites. But these are all world wide sites. I'm looking for community sites, as in sites built specifically for a particular city or area showcasing local vendors. Also with a mix of local news, events, calendar, etc... Local community sites.

Suggest you use Wamp on your PC (mamp on a mac) and install Joomla with sample data and test some of the extensions. You can easily install several instances of Joomla on localhost if need be.
