I would like to know also, as it is driving me nuts trying to figure out why inserting html in the mtml editor does not seem to work.
If you find out let me know.  :(

Clare, I finally found it  :o
"To add HTML code to content, use the NO WYSIWYG editor (and then don't redit the content with anything but the NO WYSIWYG editor) backend -> user manager -> select your account -> select editor -> save"

Hope this helps you too....it works

In your Backend control panel, go to user manager, select your name (account) select edit, and there will be a drop down menu. Select "NO WYSIWYG editor" save your settings.
Then go to the page that you want to add the button, select edit, and paste the html code (for the paypal button or other code)  where you want it, and select save.
The button will be there in it's correct form.
To keep that button, just make sure that you don't edit that page with WYSIWYG editor, or you will loose the button code again, and have to go through the process again.
I hope this helps you, as it certainly helped me.  ;)

to avoid having to be concerned with any editing resulting in the need to reinsert the PayPal button html, I have instead (in using the advice as sited) created a new 'custom code' module through the module manager to set up my encrypted PayPal button. I now have it in its own module, where editing will not be an issue...easy.

I'm working with a more complicated site that will need several Google Checkout buttons on each of several articles. I've found that when I use no WYSIWYG editor, I lose my background color and my module positions line up vertically, one after another instead of in the layout they're supposed to be in. I can't use a custom module because I need to place buttons in specific articles. Any suggestions?

If you don't want to go through the hassle of turning your WYSIWYG editor on and off every time you need to do a Paypal button, there is a better way. Chance are you are using the TinyMCE editor.

Go to Extensions > Plugin Manager and select your editor
Make sure that your settings are as follows -
Code Clean Up on start Up - OFF
Code Clean Up on Save - NEVER
Do Not Clean HTML Entities - YES

That will allow you to paste in the code in the HTML view and preserve it when you go back to WYSIWYG.

Thanks for the reply on this issue!
I should have mentioned that I'm using Joomla! 1.5.1 in my query. When I went to the plug-in's parameters, I found:

Code Cleanup on Startup Off
Do not clean HTML entities. No
Save Warning Off
Compressed Version Off

I set it up this way:

Code Cleanup on Startup Off
Do not clean HTML entities. Yes
Save Warning On
Compressed Version Off

Unfortunately, I found that my BuyNow buttons still disappeared after editing a page in TinyMCE, although the space in the text in which they used to reside was now preserved. It seems that the "Save Warning" just tells me that I'll lose my information if I navigate away from the page when I click on the Save button after editing in TinyMCE. And it's right.

Is this module available to everyone?

"I have instead (in using the advice as sited) created a new 'custom code' module through the module manager to set up my encrypted PayPal button. I now have it in its own module, where editing will not be an issue...easy."

I tried this, found some great illustrated tutorials that I followed explicitly, and it did not work. The {loadmodule} command simply appeared as text in the page. The module was activated.

Does anyone have any ideas why?
Thanks,
Cindy

Hmmm... well...

I thought it was:

Code: Select all

{loadposition your-module-here}
If you are still only seeing the text after that, try the Mod_php from Fiji Web designs. Not only can you include the button, but you can also pass the tags with shipping info and such back to Paypal/Google whomever, and also update your database with the URI of the visitor while you are at it, all the while tracking your clickthru precisely back to determine if you are having sales issues in a particular country/region / or with a specific ISP.

They did some very nice work there with that mod. Be careful whom you let have access to it though.

yes, I used loadmodule command correctly.

Mod_php looks interesting. They do not mention Joomla 1.0 / 1.5 compatibility.

Why do you say this "Be careful whom you let have access to it though" ?

Thanks!

Mod_Php let's one run any php code in a module or component. It hasn't choked on any php yet. Joomla! was designed to firewall the php commands away from visitors, and provides a ladder of access to core functions through user authentication levels... publisher, editor, manager, administrator, and so on.

Mod_php serves as an additional interface which takes the php out of the templates and access protected codebase and puts it into objects that can be inserted anywhere in the web site... Now the objects (really modules) only have access to the php, however if one of the authorized users using Mod_Php incorrectly configures a php command, it might be awhile before you can track down the source of the problem since it can now be anywhere in the web site instead of in the template or one of the php files.

I tried to follow this info:

"Code Cleanup on Startup Off
Do not clean HTML entities. No
Save Warning Off
Compressed Version Off

I set it up this way:

Code Cleanup on Startup Off
Do not clean HTML entities. Yes
Save Warning On
Compressed Version Off"

However i did not see anything about html entries, just the other 3. I am guessing that is the critical one to change so i don't have to keep going back and forth between editors, plus we have to constantly add new buttons to our site as our class offerings change, so never being able to go back in and edit w/o the 'tiny' editor is REALLY inconvenient.

SOLUTION:

Download mod_php here:
http://www.fijiwebdesign.com/products/j ... odule.html

Install and activate the module in Joomla.

Add your html/php/buy buttons.

To create another, simply copy this module in Joomla and change name, modify the code.

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... 23/details

Jumi was designed specifically for this problem (amongst others) but the fact that its a pain to use raw html in wysiwyg

Jumi - very well rated, i use myself for all code external code (php, js, html) - It works great - it may be of use to you in this problem.
