As of the time of this writing, we currently have 6,594 members and growing each day. Though there is no clear statistical data what percentage among these members are newbies, we always encounter newbie questions such as:

"I'm a newbie, how can I start Joomla and get rolling?"

To answer this generally common question for our newly onboard Joomla users, kenmcd and I will attempt to make a LIST or a pool of resources in the Joomla! forums specifically for newbies to help get them started.

Local web servers or how-to's for running Joomla on your desktop:

Free JoomlaStarterKit local Joomla web server and templates
A local web server (Apache/PHP/MySQL and all the necessities) to run Joomla on your desktop, so you can play and tinker with Joomla even without having your web host. In layman's terms: you will be able to run Joomla right on your own desktop PC.

Joomla Instant Web Installers:

Joomla Installation? "Team Joomlancer Auto Web Installer Script" is the SOLUTION
A web installer script(by Team Joomlancer Philippines) to automatically upload the Joomla 1.0.1 installation files into your webserver. it also automatically creates a Joomla mySQL Database with a one INSTALL button! fill up the information needed and presto! you got your webserver populated with Joomla installation files + database. tha pain of downloading the Joomla installation file and uploading each and every unzipped file to your webhost/server is HISTORY!
