Switch default language depending on menu choice

Post by guwic » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:46 pm

Hi,
Building a site in several languages, the language choice is made on the top menu. I like to use standard functions for e.g. login and sending mail. The lead text appearing on the screen for the functions depend on the default language chosen for the front end. Is the any method to change this when chosing language in the menu? :geek: Grateful for hints.

Which version of Joomla are you using?
Which extensions are you using for multilanguage?

I am currently using Joomla 1.5.23 with language packs English 1.5.15 and Swedish 1.5.23. Have plans to introduce german, french and maybe spanish translations of the contents.

Sorry, I mast have missed something -- I do not use any 'multilingual extension' as far I can see. The language choice links to different main menu modules from where it is easy to proceed with articles in the the specifies language. Everything looks fine except that I can not let a standard module, e.g. the login, take leading text from a language pack other than the one specified as default.
I started this project with joomla 1.5, learnt php and css to set up my own template -- I find it difficult to see how to migrate into later releases... also find joomla-fish difficult to dig into.
So -- is there a way to switch default during execution? :geek:

Therefore, it's not a language choice, it is a simple structural way of displaying your site where you have stuff written in different languages.

To accomplish what you wish, you need, in 1.5.x, an extension as Joomfish.
There are too many parameters to code to set a default site language when switching to a specific menu item.

You would accomplish easily what you want with Joomla.1.7.1
