Translations being deleted when I click Save/Apply

Post by MrGribbs9686 » Thu Oct 13, 2011 2:37 pm

I don't know why this keeps happening, but every time I EDIT translations, and click Save or Apply, the content translation is deleted, leaving an empty white box. It seems to only be happening when I edit existing (older) translations. When I add new articles, I am able to add the translations without a problem.

I usually use Chrome or FireFox, but I also tried in I.E. and it's still not working.

Anyone ever run into this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Brandon

I believe that your database's collation sequence is utf-8

What are you translating? Could you explain more about what are you trying to do?

Are you creating new articles?

Hi imanickam,

I should probably add that I'm very new to this web stuff, so please forgive my ignorance. I am not following this part: collation sequence is utf-8??

I am translating website articles (web pages). I use JoomFish to add Spanish translations of our content to display on the Spanish version of our website. Adding the translations isn't an issue. It's only when I try to edit an existing translation that I run into problems.

This is sort of just started out of the blue. I know that we recently migrated our servers, but I doubt that this would have anything to do with the issue.

If you go to phpMyAdmin and select the database that you use for Joomla! you can see the collation sequence of the database and the tables in the database.

As you are saying that the new translations work and the problem appears only when you edit the old articles the text disappears, the collation sequence may not be an issue. How many old articles you have to edit.

If you do not edit the old article, does it show OK in the front-end?

What is your site's URL?

Provide a couple of links that has issues and that are OK.

Thanks for clarifying :) And no, it does't show right on the front-end. It does mirror what's in the editor, which is nothing because the field is blank.

Here are some links for examples:

The domain is bodylogicmd.com

These are two of the Spanish pages that aren't working:

1. http://es.bodylogicmd.com/terapia-de-ho ... ra-mujeres
2. http://es.bodylogicmd.com/terapia-de-ho ... ra-hombres

These are two NEW Spanish pages that are working:

1. http://es.bodylogicmd.com/para-el-hombr ... ndropausia
2. http://es.bodylogicmd.com/para-la-mujer ... menopausia

I am also having another issue with the Spanish translations. In some translations, the content IS showing in the editor, but when doesn't display on front end. However, the ENGLISH intro text displays. It's strange because in this case, on the back end, everything looks to be fine, but on the front end, it isn't displaying correctly.

Here's an example of this:

http://es.bodylogicmd.com/hormonas-bioi ... 3%A9nticas

Nevermind that last issue, after copy/pasting link, I now see that there are some special characters in that url, that could be the issue for that.

Update:

It seems that whenever I click "save" or "apply" the content within the editor is deleted. This is only happening for translations. The English articles (originals) are fine. Once again, the problem is not ADDING translations, but EDITING existing ones that I'm having trouble with. Here is a like to a page that this happened to: http://es.bodylogicmd.com/terapia-de-ho ... ra-hombres

The content was all there before I made edits to the page. This page should look something like this: http://es.bodylogicmd.com/hormonas-bioidenticas (different content of course, but the same styling and CSS)

Any takers??

I also wanted to add that I'm using the latin1_swedish_ci database collation. Should I switch to utf8??

Did you get this problem worked out? I'm having the same issue. If i have accents in the title of the article i get this same issue, but if I take out the accents everything seems to work ok. I'm using html entities in my content so there are no issues there. For example:

If the translated title is: Fundación - I get weird issues with saving and everything you mentioned.

If the title is: Fundacion - Everything is good, except for the fact that i don't have the proper accents in the title which is an issue for the client.

Is there a fix for this or a setting i can change either in the database or joomla? My database is UTF-8.
