We will certainly work with you on the deadline as long as you are continuing to interact, as you have been.

As far as "quick response", I must tell you, you are getting the best response time and interaction out of any of our contestants. As I look back over the past month, there was one sketch between Dec 5 and 16th, then you had a long absence until the 27th. Since the 27th, you've had sometimes more than 10 responses a day. We are unlikely to respond more quickly than that!  ;)

Continue to work with the community and respond and interact and you will have no trouble with deadlines. You are doing great!

Amy :)
Amy, sorry I missed this post before. I wasn't implying that you weren't making quick responses :D I did notice I have been getting very fast responses, and for that I am greatful, As for my absence, it took me that long to admit to myself the original could not be finished within the time limit XD.

Also, yes I agree with the "We are One" I wil move it down and adjust color.

trombonechamp, Glad you like it. I will fix the shadows too, but that will take a while because I lost the pre-shadow backup and I do not believe I posted it here XD.

Thanks for teh help so far ^-^

Since the light brightens up the black spaces, don't forget to give the pieces on there shadows as well!

I like the way it looks, but is the one on the bottom a little bit bent?  If you look closely, it also looks like it indents near the box.
Just one more thing: make sure the shadow angles are accurate.  Time for some right triangle trig!  ;)
Maybe I am seeing things, though.

So sorry to hear about your drive crash, I am a backup 'freak' after losing some data early on in my computer life, and also working in I.T. for 15 years...  I saw a lot of tears over lost data, and no matter how many tears, it doesent bring the 'zeros' and 'ones' back.

As Amy does, I allways backup before.. also during and after...  especially when working with graphics files.  I have picture_01.psd _02 _03 etc...  that way if the file corrupts, you can go back as well...

That is looking great,  looking forward to seeing it with the 'we are one' moved and colour adjusted..

I should be around for the next week again to so I can respond quickly...  :o)

Ahh, that's cool. Thanks for the feedback everyone! :)

Sorry I've been absent the past few days, I didn't get a chance to hop on the computer. Right now I am going to make a new draft.

Also @rasterblaster: Yeah, I do the same thing with naming graphics files. These files in particular were called Joomla_Chess## until the partition crash. NOw these new ones are Joomla_ChessX# :D

Ok, this is all I could get done tonight because I am really *really* tired. What I have here is a guide I'm going to use for the new shadows:

Yep..  Those lines will nail it with the shadows...    I used to have this really cool clear plastic ruler I would hold up to the screen for stuff like that.  Very low tech, but effective..  8)

You took the wrong URL. This one should be correct

I love it! Shadows are Ok now.
Perhaps the text 'We Are One' more centered within the squares or something like that?

The red on the grey shaded squares looks a bit 'funny' around the edges.  - also the word 'world' looks to be bold and the rest does not.
how would it be if you made it all bold?  Does the lighting effect apply to the words?  perhaps thats what causing it ?

I am wondering what it would look like using the Joomla colours for the writing too..  at the moment there are three colours for the green for example.  The "logo" colour, the "WE" and the "ONE"  it might look more 'together' if all the writing used the standard joomla logo colours.  (green Orange, blue and red)

Love the shadows, excellent job there!

Hi,

Wow, lots of effort going into this one. I had a few questions that may or may not help :P

Are you using vectors in the drawing of your graphics? or just drawing raster images?
If you look closely the peices do not line up with eachother in the horizontal rows. Was that intended? I personally prefer things to be lined up, but it may look less like a natural chess board cause people can't line em up perfectly.
I would also suggest looking at the font colours and try to make them the actual Joomla! colour.

Great to see what you have done with this task. I had actually eyed it off but I figured leave it to the more creative people like you :D

Cheers,
James

I never noticed they don't line up till you pointed that out, but I think it looks more natural that way...  just an opinion...

'World' was bold alone on purpose because it's positioning relative to the light makes it disappear otherwise. Theoretically i could make the rest of the words bold if you guys think that would look better.

As for changing the colors of We Are One, yeah I can do that.

Have you tried making the writing a layer over the image, so that the lighting does not effect it?  - otherwise it will also effect the colour of the writing too... ??

Oh, yeah, of course. I put the words in after the lighting, the colours of the words are unaffected by that.

thats great!
I think this is nearly a finished work of art.

My suggestions would be to use the joomla BLUE somewhere as you have all the colors but that.
and also the word 'ONE' is touching a the square on the side... is it possible to make it a little smaller...
that can be done by decreasing the font size by half a point, or making the spacing between the letters a teeny bit smaller, or a combination of both.
you don't want it to look obviously smaller, just so its not touching the sides.  (and via a small optical illusion it will look  bit bigger anyway as it is a light colour on a dark background)

Another thing you may want to consider:
Have you thought about bolding "board" as well as "World"?  The bolding of just world makes it look a little unnatural.  Bolding both would show comparion.

Just a suggestion  8)

It looks good, my only comment is the "across the board" and "or across the world" are a bit hard to read.  I think they are clashing with the background a bit (for example the blue looks a bit 'purple' on the word across.)  is it possible to make them a slightly bigger font?
(but still in the same square)  I realise that it will mean going to 4 lines on

or
across
the
world

so it fits....

The we are one looks spot on now.  8)

Wow, really sorry about that guys! :(

I just installed a new OS and I've been re-packing it with the programs I need, so I've so busy!

Thanks a lot for reminding me about the time, Amy.

Ok, here's my final submission. The text should be alot easier to read because I used Graphics Gale to finish it up. Gale is so much better for text than GIMP.
