Preview article within actual template

Post by leolam » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:31 am

A relative new user "Krizanke" posted in this topic: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=428&t=390433 and excellent plugin and some code was added for the final button by another user.

This plugin adds a button to the WYSIWYG editor (works also with JCE) which appears when you have hit the "apply" button. When you than click the "preview" button on the editor you will actually be able to preview the article in the actual template layout without the necessity to create a (menu) link first which is very useful and would be a very good replacement for the basic functionality of the current top right "preview" function which is good to verify typo's but nothing else imho.

My suggestion is to change this current preview function with the plugin/code as provided in the mentioned post (and improved were needed) which will add a tremendous improved functionality to article creation/modification and is little work to add.

Cheers

So when do we get a proper article preview as described above? Current one is totally useless.

In addition to get a proper article preview, what's the point with "Preview" button in back end admin in the right top corner? It doesn't preview anything, just throws you to the site.

Doesn't anybody else think that this is a really essential and basic feature?

Seems like people are more comfortable to preview their articles by manually using a link, making a menu entry for it or just publish it without review. Inexperienced users don't know how the editor works because very often you don't get what you see.

Even Better:

I learned about this some weeks ago... Works like a charm: http://www.nonumber.nl/betterpreview

Some awesome extensions on this site by Peter van Westen and they are free

I've tried BetterPreview and it's a small improvement.

Few problems though:

1) It doesn't add the functionality to preview a unpublished article when you're working on it.
2) Yet another 3rd party extension to manage and keep up to date.

I still think that the core preview function should be improved.
