Short description
* Give the site owner full control over the META data settings as is currently the case within the SEF patch for Joomla 1.5. This also includes full control over showing the generator tag and the content of the generator tag.
* Ability to define globally the META data structure for the website: meaning the site owner can define, set defaults and make select list for the META data fields (as currently is the case in the SEF patch for Joomla 1.5).
* Make an interface whereby the siteowner can manage the META data fields (edit, remove, order in the presentation, make select lists, etc.)
* Option of removing the generator tag in "Global Configuration" in the "Metadata Settings" box.
* Possibility of adding "Metadata Information" in every page including sections, categories and contacts rather than only in articles.
* Ability to add different meta tags of the different page of an article created by using pagination.
Expected benefits/ Problem solved
* Taking out generator tag slightly reduces the html to content ratio
* Prevents global metadata being used in sections, categories and contacts
* Prevents same description and keyword tag being used on articles where pagination is used
* Give the site owner full control over the HTML head section in regards of META data and http-equivs (if set)

Actual this is currently the functionality that is offered by the joomlatwork SEF patch for Joomla 1.5. This gives the siteowner control over the META structures used within their site.
Looking from application architecture model it would be nice to have a full META data class present in the Joomla framework which can be used by third party developers to include the global defined and managed META data structure within their components / extensions. Also the way the META data can be assigned (stored) within the different objects should be described. For example the current parameter framework (jParameter) can be used for this.

You mean like JDocument with the different functions to add tags to the head of a site?alledia wrote: Looking from application architecture model it would be nice to have a full META data class present in the Joomla framework which can be used by third party developers to include the global defined and managed META data structure within their components / extensions. Re: SEO: Metadata Control
this thread seems to me a good one, I haven't read this one before today in the white paper... but now I'd like to say that the metadata is important as they are THE KEYS towards our contents!

Re: SEO: Metadata Control
I'm hoping that soon you have full control over metadata at least in every core part of J! This is important feature and it must be part of the core.
That includes also following metadata: robots, googlebot, cache-control and pragma.
Also you should be able to control the metadata individually for every component, article and menu item, but also globally, per section and per category. Just like you control for example article parameters in article manager.

Re: SEO: Metadata Control
Hello!
I wrote metadata information for every article in my joomla site: http://www.astrologycritics.com/, but metadata information does not appear when I look in source code with Firebug.
Why?
I have sh404sef installed and I saw at sh404SEF
Configuration/ Meta/seo I have
Activate Meta management - Yes and a message
"sh404SEF has several plugins to automatically create META tags for some components. Don’t create them manually unless the automatically created ones don’t suit you !!".
The metadata information I wrote for every articles is not used by Joomla?
Should I turn Activate Meta management - NO? What can I do?
Thanks

Re: SEO: Metadata Control
Yes I do believe that Joomla has to do a lot in SEO field( that includes meta tag and description). The Joomla seo patch 1.5 is fine but it does not support the 3rd paty components, which is very frustrating. I hope Joomla will have inbuilt meta tag, description control, that effect every created link.

Re: SEO: Metadata Control
I believe that this issue has since been resolved. I have never had an issue using the proper meta tags for each article/post.
