SOC 2008: Forms Component with AJAX Support

Post by cavijayan » Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:39 am

I dont know whether its too late for submission or not ...

Anyway i would like to take up the forms component with AJAX support as my project.

Proposed Idea:

Create a component which allows the joomla users to create custom forms with custom fields. So they can use the custom forms for gathering data from users.

Features:
  • Fields that would be supported: textfield, textarea, Radio Button, Check box, Dropdown list, DatePicker
Field validations will be done based on rules set by users.
All the entered data will be exportable to csv, and MS excel file format.
All the form submission will be based on ajax submit.
Will be using the extjs framework for the form fields, validation and ajax.
Project Milestones:
Discuss and settle all the features by. week 1
Getting the database structure done up. week 3
First working prototype with the functionality of adding form. week 4
Implementing the recaptcha functionality. Week 4
Improve the prototype with editing the existing fields by week 5
Implementing the email back to admin as well as end users functionality. Week 6
Export functionality. Week 7
Do up the admin part for copying the existing form, backup etc. Week 8

About Myself:

I'm C A Vijayan, 25, Male, a Business and IT student from UniSIM, Singapore.

My Personal Interest / Hobbies:
I have been actively exploring natural photography as well as HDR photography. I love watching movies, any language as long as they have english subtitles. Also i love playing Ultimate Friebee.

My programming Skills:
I have been exploring different languages and frameworks for Rich Client Side application development. I have been working with joomla for about 2 years. During the 1.5 beta stages i had experience of converting few of the other people's 1.0 mambots to 1.5 compatabile. Recently i have been working with extjs framework and php / mysql to do web applictaions.

i agree... forms were visitors or registered users can input information is a great idea much needed .... but i also think that there are other things lacking that are of more importance

ex.

sub category's

how about multi-site user integration, if you register for one site, it registers you for other sites as well

Forums, rather it be smf or phpbb3 they could pick something and integrate it into joomla. User integration here as well

Hello There,
I've been working on a component for the last 2 months that does the following:

* Fields that would be supported: textfield, textarea, Radio Button, Check box, Dropdown list, DatePicker
* Field validations will be done based on rules set by users.
* Will be using the extjs framework for the form fields, validation and ajax.

Adding this would be pretty easy:
All the entered data will be exportable to csv, and MS excel file format.
All the form submission will be based on ajax submit.

In addition it also allows you to
* upload files with limitations on size, type and number of files per form
* create category tries of unlimited depth

I created another idea, maybe we could split the work, we could use my existing code you could add what you want to add and I'd add what I need to add.

Then you'd have a 2 month head start. I've been working on this applications exclusively for 2 months.

What do you guys think?
