Re: Change/ Remove Article ID in URL?
Without an extension, the only way to remove the article id is to create a menu item leading to the article. But once you have done this, the id will disappear, and will also get rid of the leading category URL.
Example before: www.yourdomain.com/category/12-cool-post
Example after: www.yourdomain.com/cool-post
IMO this is much better for seo, unless you need the subcategories displayed.
You can view this on the page we just created here http://www.webdesignandcompany.com/seo- ... -business/
Took a while to figure it all out. Joomla 3 has so many settings.

Re: Change/ Remove Article ID in URL?
It would be really great if people would stop repeating the suggestion to create a menu item for every article. This may be practical on a site where articles are not being added very often, but to add the menu creation step to the process of adding a new article, is just not very practical on a site where articles are being added often.
It is not at all obvious that the article id is necessary since Joomla 2.5 to uniquely identify an article within a category, so why are the SEF URLs still being generated with the article id??

That's exactly the solution I would use on a website with not too many articles.
You can create a Hidden menu for that: a Menu that's not visible on the site because it does not have a Menu Module.
For sites with a lot of new articles each day, you could use a SEF extension, davidascher wrote:This may be practical on a site where articles are not being added very often, but to add the menu creation step to the process of adding a new article, is just not very practical on a site where articles are being added often.
e.g. sh404SEF (paid download)

I would be very very interested in knowing more about the modification you made to router.php. Can you post more about what you did?

Create a Menu Item to access the article through.

Re: Change/ Remove Article ID in URL?
So what is the fix for article ID showing? Would you like to share WHAT TO DO WITH ROUTER.PHP, where do I find this file?? This should work in Joomla not needing external extensions. Thanks
