404 error after creating new article
I'm getting a 404 error after someone submits an article. As soon as I post the article, the 404 error goes away.
Here are my variables:
PHP Built on: Linux box594.bluehost.com 2.6.28-10.7.intel.IGB.BHsmp #1 SMP Thu Aug 13 21:52:24 MDT 2009 x86_64
Database Version: 5.0.81-community-log
Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
PHP Version: 5.2.9
Web Server: Apache/2.2.13 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.13 OpenSSL/0.9.8k DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635
Web Server to PHP interface: cgi-fcgi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.14 Stable [ Wojmamni Ama Naiki ] 30-July-2009 23:00 GMT
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091007 Firefox/3.5.4 GTB5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
The sequence goes like this:
1. Someone submits an article (not yet approved and posted)
2. I log into my site
3. I'm automatically redirected to my "What's New" page.
4. I get the 404 error
5. I log into the back end and post the article, and then everything works fine
I'm using Bluehost and have my website in a subdirectory. This is obviously a bug of some kind. Is there a way to fix it?

Re: 404 error after creating new article
just test this by disabling the sef - and maybe if you are using the cache function - clear the cache and disable it for testing purpose

Re: 404 error after creating new article
I disabled the SEF and cleaned the cache. I got the same problem. I also tried some additional testing. I changed the section for the article so it wouldn't show up on this menu item. I wanted to see if there was a problem with just any article. I didn't see the same problem. As soon as I put the section back to the original section, the problem reappeared.
I also tried changing how the articles are listed from 1 column to 2. Same problem. It didn't change anything.
So, I'm back at the beginning. I have a menu item that points to a section and if there is an article in that section that is not "Published", I get the 404 error.

Re: 404 error after creating new article
Yes, I have the latest version of CB installed. The re-direction, as it turns out, didn't have anything to do with it.
I have a menu item that lists all the articles under a specific section. It's a "Section Blog Layout." When there is a article in the section I have targeted with this menu item, I get the 404 error. It's happening for everyone and not just me.
If you want to see the menu, you can login to my site with the following credentials:
Username: demo
Pwd: 123456
You will see a new menu item appear on top once you log in called "What's New." I've moved all non-published articles to "Uncategorized" so you won't see the 404 error. As soon as I make an un-published article part of the target category, it's back to 404 fun time.
I hope this helps.

Re: 404 error after creating new article
just another q - when you are logged in and manually go the the what's new page - do you get the 404 - also do a test by changing the login module to just go the home page and see if you get the same problem

Re: 404 error after creating new article
I am suggesting you to create menu item of single page type for your new article.
